A static midfield is enhanced by a slower Leadbitter on 69 minutes. Diamond is given the chance to save the game on 90 minutes. Says it all. Don't want to see a lot of these players again in a Sunderland shirt but Leadbitter as an option shows how tactically bankrupt Johnson is.

Putting on leadbitter instead of diamond is absolutely mental

Well its only half time but obviously im a very happy Imp tonight ! 4/5yrs or so ago we were non league and i believe you were premiership/championship! Tonight u hit the xbar and we the post.!
Game on i would suggest saturday ! And the person who said its lincoln ffs and whoever called us a pub team early on in the season RESPECT PLEASE!

Yeah, all the evidence has been clear for weeks that we were heading for a defeat like this tonight. It's only faith and hope that plays with our emotions and makes us look beyond what is obvious. Most of the players just aren't good enough.
Yep, sadly and rather embarrassingly for me I’ve only fairly recently realised that’s the case! Whatever happens with the rest of the play off games at least we have an opportunity with this new owner and team to build properly again for the longer term.

fingers crossed for the 2nd leg, I’m lucky that I’ve managed to get tickets for it so I’ll cheer them on until there’s no hope left, but I can’t see us getting through.

This ^

For the last week all we have heard is how the break would do us good and we’d come flying out of the traps. I now fully expect a bullshit rallying call tomorrow and then another gutless performance on Sat.

Everything about that team is just an embarrassment to our club
Said much the same.

Its just Johnson bluster.

We haven’t got the players to come flying out of the traps unlesss they were opened 30 thousand feet in the air.

Tonight was sad but it just really reflected how we’ve played since the Oxford game.

We‘ve got no bright, quick, strong players in any area of the pitch.

McFadzean, Wright and Flanagan are all ponderous one paced defenders who any striker with guile and movement could torture.

Midfield plodders like Power, Winchester poor Grant who’s career deserved a better finale and Scowen who might have energy but how he’s made a career as a professional I’ll never know.

Up top big Charlie is potent if you put a cross right on his head when he’s in space a d he doesn’t have to move to get to it, but otherwise he’s not going to cause a competent defence problems.

Our only hope on Saturday is Lincoln are so complacent they go on a bender between now and then - I’d still back them to win even then.

Sky headline reads ‘impressive Lincoln brush aside Sunderland’

impressive? I thought they were shite.

The commentary was even better. I thought it was Lincoln TV. That Irish bloke had clearly done his homework on them and spoke endlessly about their players. They must have spent 20 mins, prior to the game and during, just talking about that loan keeper. Meanwhile, we signed Hume from Wigan in December and the main bit of homework they'd done on us is that we are a big physical team who have giants everywhere at set pieces - despite most of our players being 5ft8.

Lincoln were better first half, we were better second ... We didn't take our chances and they took/made there's. An uphill struggle for Saturday but at least he knows he needs to put all his attackers on and go for it. Not really a surprising result though we finished in the league where we did for a reason .. we look very one dimensional at times and struggle to break teams down with pass and move football. We need to recruit players who can do this if we fail to go up and add some dynamism to midfield and a proper box finisher.

he already has and does mean business. look into the building he is doing behind the scenes. People may not like it but we, as a project, will take time to succeed. Just have to accept it
The problem is the scenes not behind them needs to get a decent manager and better recruitment sorted or the fans wont come back.
Sunderland are no longer a big club we are league 1 get used to it.

30, 000 feet you say . That's an idea , crowd fund for a plane ? We've done it before
