Northern trains

With Horden station opening it looks like the trains will be even busier when matchdays start again. Surely now Northern will ensure to put on more carriages when #SAFC are at home?

Anyone travelling up for the match on the 22nd from teesside will have the pleasure of using a replacement bus service from Middlesbrough to Hartlepool on both legs of the journey.

I think the work starts later on the Saturday so train straight through for the match but bus back.

Presumably due to social distancing. If they can run 4 during a pandemic then lets hope they see sense and leave it at four permanently. No doubt the North East's favourite son Boris will see that this gets the attention it deserves............:rolleyes:

I normally catch the train from Blaydon through to Sunderland on a matchday and that was normally two carraiges only. I was normally OK for a seat as the vast majority get on at Newcastle. One game in three they would change the trains at Newcastle and I would end up last in the queue behind those who got on there. Its was like a sardine tin on wheels most weeks.

Unfortunately they are only able to run 4 coaches at the moment as they are still running a reduced service. From June 16th they are back to almost a full service and therefore the strengthening will end as they will need the extra units to run the full service. So it will be back to squashing everyone on each Saturday and then turning people away from Hartlepool onwards.

Wouldn't be surprised to see it back down to 2 carriages from Monday. There's not enough trains to run them all doubled up. They've only had the extra carriages during lockdown as the Morpeth services were 1 train every 2 hours (instead of hourly), Tyne Valley 1 trains every hour (instead of 3) and the Saltburn to Darlington was down to hourly (instead of 2). It's all going back to normal service from Sunday.

Northern isn’t Arriva anymore, they handed the keys back a while back, publicly ran now.

The replacement bus is needed as Network Rail are carrying out engineering work on the line, not much Nothern can do about it.

Well done Arriva
Correct. They will definitely be back down to 2 carriages from Monday.

Are you sure? National Rail website has it down as all weekend. It would be very unusual for Network Rail to take possession of a line during the day.

Correct but Arriva RTS have the contract with Northern Trains Limited for bus replacement services. You’ve learned something here today.

And LNER are still in a pickle with those recalls
My one back is currently cancelled up to this Friday
Then they release a new list for the following week

I went up to Sunderland during Easter midweek and there was 4 carriages. Hardly anyone onboard

I got the train up to Sunderland for the Plymouth away game and there was only 2 carriages and it was packed!

To be fair I told my kids and they got excited at the 'interesting' journey home

From shouldnt be a problem from what I can see, getting back will be crap
You sure?

Buses replace trains between Middlesbrough and Hartlepool on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 May. Your journey may be affected by engineering work

As per the northern website
