Probably a fair point, but that's due to years of underachievement, you had a period of around 10 years of competing at the top of the PL and spending big money. That's still fresh in people's minds. Add to this that the regional media are very much pro Newcastle, your egos are continually massaged.
Christ - you are as bad as them. I remember a mag on TS being asked by Cundy (who was fishing) how many times Newcastle have been in the Champions League - the response "Most seasons pre-Ashley....6 or 7". - the truth is two.

Likewise challenging at the top:

3,6,2,2,13,13,11,11, 4,3,5, 14, 17,13,12,18, 12,5,16,10,15,18, 10,13,13....

Some statistics lessons for the deluded ones. No matter how you measure average they are "mid-table". ..bang average.

Prem Seasons in top 4 = 5 (20%)

The purple patch was a generation ago and won't be returning. This example should be compulsory for all year 7 maths courses in the NE.

The 5th out the group was 18th about 6 years ago.
So what point were you making when you mentioned finishes between 8 - 15th? Where you normally finish?
1I think you mentioned those positions not having a clue that, that's where Newcastle normally finish.
No, the fifth was in the Championship, because we'd been relegated the year before.

The bragging rights change with the wind between Newcastle and Sunderland. That's all it needs to be because, after all we're all basically equal as people.

Update

44 - 45 - 44 - 39 (48 max)

It's not hard to see they are all likely to end up roughly the same over the course of a whole season (likely only one result in it).

Is there any reason your fans see the first two as world class performances and the last two as terrible and worthy of the sack?
I mean the biggest difference is the players at hand.

The first was achieved with Dwight Gayle Joselu as strikers. That squad in general had very little Premier League quality. It improved in year two, but it lacked depth. If Rondon had been injured we'd have really struggled because that team lacked goals.

Now we have quality and depth. Saint-Maximin, Almiron, Fraser are a good trio of creative attackers. Wilson is clearly the star man but we have Joelinton, Gayle, and to a much lesser extent Carroll. I've not even mentioned Willock. Credit to Steve/recruitment team, he's been an inspired signing.

yeah, 3rd, 6th, 2nd, 2nd
Then 4th, 3rd and 5th.

It's very good and we haven't achieved that in my lifetime. Nothing deluded about it to be fair. Whether we like it or not, they've experienced it, we haven't...sadly. But considering they've had a lot of average seasons in between, it does make it surprising how entitled many of them seem to be.

And Ashley’s backing. However after the first XI you have poor back up. St Maximin, Wilson and Willock are canny as is Lascelles, the keeper and one or two others like JohnJer. Joe Linton and Gayle are poor strikers for a Premier League team. Carroll is past it. Almiron flatters to deceive and Willock maybe having a purple patch but either way won’t be back. But Bruce’s recruitment team have done ok with Ashley’s backing.

Fat Wafa had Rondon, Perez and Gayle.
Pie man has Wilson, St Max and Gayle.

Not much in it if you ask me, also not much in it in terms of league placings or points, in fact there's not much in it between the two managers.

Strange how one is heralded as world class and a miracle worker and one is a fat useless spunktrumpet.🤷‍♂️

Depends if they went on about the LDV vans trophy as if it was the FA cup. If so then yes

Aye relegation in 2009 was followed by average crowds of 44k and relegation in 2016 by 52k crowds in the second division.
Relegation for sunlun in mid 00s and 2017 followed by crowds of like 23k.

but aye we are the ones who flee when times are bad.
You obviously don't remember the lowest top flight attendance of the entire 1970s mate, you deserted your team pretty quickly then as I seem to remember.

Wolfweird...please invite yourself onto your own mag forum please..I'm guessing their patter stinks as much as yours!!..you'll fit in nicely there you utter shed!!
I bet the internet warrior that he is wouldn't dare walk in to a pub full of Sunderland fans and spout the stuff he posts on here
