Another US school shooting

There's a reason why these shootings never happen at rich kid schools. It's because those schools are protected by armed security and are designed in a way to prevent this shit happening (minimal and controlled entry/exit points etc). Everybody jumps to "ban guns!" when something like this happens but there are more realistic ways to try and solve the problem. Mental health and young adults turned into zombies by anti-depressant drugs also need to be looked at.

f***ing sorry state of affairs that a school needs to be patrolled by armed security to be safe.

Maybe if guns weren't so readily available it wouldn't be an issue.

At the risk of sounding like point scoring when was the last school shooting here? Makes me so f***ing angry this
Would you think that they should ban cars for everyone?
Cars aren't specifically designed to hit people

The world would almost certainly be a better place without cars mind though so probably, aye 😂

Unfortunately theres always gonna be one loop that gets access to daddies or mammies guns and goes on a rampage...
So while im fully against arming teachers surely it makes sense to have 1 that has access to a gun to defend the poor kids that are like sitting ducks .
The shooter might just think twice.
Probably not I know but ...oh I dinnar

How would that work though? Locked in a cabinet somewhere so as good as useless in this type of situation, or on the teacher’s person where an angry kid could get hold of it?

More guns just isn’t the answer.

The car is designed to transport people. Guns are designed to kill. Very big difference.

Could see it working if it was for weapons sold by manufacturers direct to consumers at gun shows, where there is no need for any kind of background check to complete a purchase

I think there still needs to be background checks at gun shows as they are sold by licensed vendors who would be required to adhere to the law.

Private person to person sales in states that don’t require universal background checks are an issue.

Well obviously not an ideal situation, but surely a teacher with access to a locked gun safe and trained, would be better deterrent than just letting some kid have pot shots at other students while hoying books at him/her.

Not so sure. That just seems a bit useless in a scenario where there’s an active shooter.

“Would you hold fire for a second whilst I just run to the staff room and get my gun?”

Dreadful and heartbreaking news.

The obsession with guns over there is appalling. Tragedies like this will just keep occurring until guns are banned or at the very least restricted in some way. Even if a way forward was found it would still take decades to take effect though as there are more guns than there are people in the USA.

It's difficult to fathom how any human could shoot a child.

What would be useless would be... actually you just carry on shooting at people I haven't got a gun in the staff room to protect the students with...so fire away .
Not great I know but got to have some protection for the kids.

Been here so many times before, it's clearly a price worth paying to many Americans. I was due to relocate there recently, but didn't, and I still didn't have my head around how many people were carrying guns...taxi driver had one on him taking me to Chicago airport, bars & supermarkets have no gun signs similar to out no smoking signs....

Just a fucked up place.

You're right - I misspoke. The problem there is indeed that there is increased likelihood of transactions in those environments where checks are not required, but as you pointed out, that's person-to-person sales (attendees) and not those in the trade.

The father of an American mate of mine died a couple of years ago in Pittsburgh. Whilst clearing out the house, he found a gun. He told me he sold it privately to someone for $30 or so.

I’m sure I’ve mentioned before, but I once talked to a woman who’d been in a bar room shooting where the woman sat next to her was accidentally shot dead. Despite that, she didn’t believe in gun control cos it made her feel safe at home. If that’s not going to change your mind, nothing is.

Edit
One dead not the shooter, the shooter is in custody according

Tennessesse Senator Marsha Blackburn is heartbroken but won't support any changes to gun laws like universal background checks
How the fuck do these people sleep at night

Tennessee Sen. Marsha Blackburn said she is "heartbroken" over Monday's shooting at Austin-East Magnet High school in Knoxville.

"I am heartbroken to hear about the shooting at Austin-East Magnet School in Knoxville. My office has been briefed on the situation and I am praying for the community, including the officer, injured in the line of duty," she tweeted.

If you're skipping "ban guns", then you are part of the problem.
How is that unrealistic? If you ban or massively control guns maybe people - any people - whether they have mental health issues or not - may then struggle to get access to a gun.
And in the UK we get upset when 4 women get arrested at a protest

Better than getting upset when 4 women get shot at a protest
This still hasn’t appeared on the BBC News website.

They're still on with the Minnesota shooting and the George Floyd case
You won't find anything negative on there, not while Biden is in power.

I'm no Trumpanzee, far from it, however if Trump was still POTUS the Beeb would have ran with this story all day and night.

Well that's clearly not the case is it.

Yup. Surely the goal must be to stop selling guns. Anything at all along the path towards that target is progress from what there is currently in USA.
