Can’t believe people really that desperate for a drink...

No I'm not. I wrote that our pavilions have been trashed by drunk chavs and that the pubs nearby would have issues with young's drinking too much and not being able to cope with the consequences. I don't fancy being part of that rubbish. When things are more back to normal I'll happily meet my mates in pubs. It just doesn't appeal at all currently.

so theres not one decent pub around your way?

Not been there for a while now, I follow them on Instagram and there seems to be a load of ‘influencers’ get in now like the other place they’ve got up Whickham. Is it still a good bar apart from these lot?

Someone mentioned that to me (about influencers) on here a while back when I’d mentioned it (might’ve been you?) and it surprised me to be honest because it’s not something I’ve noticed really. I don’t go loads, maybe a couple of times a month in normal circumstances and you do get some poser types in, lads and lasses, but can’t say I’ve noticed ‘influencers’ in. Maybe that’s the image they’re trying to promote on social media but when I’m in the clientele in the main seem to be couples, families eating, or the occasional young group of lads or lasses. I like it though aye, nice pub in a nice setting and have some decent beers on tap. It’s also within stumbling distance from where I live so we don’t have to take the car, although my lass usually insists on taxis because she doesn’t want to walk in heels.

Yeah there are a few decent ones and I'll pop in a bit later in the year once things have quietened down a bit.

There is a culture in this country, I'm sure you will have noticed, to concentrate on getting alcohol on board. It doesn't seem to happen as much in most other European countries with some exceptions. Their culture is to socialise, maybe even in cafes without alcohol, but there isn't the obsession about cramming as many pints or shots down the Gregory as there is here.

My prediction is that even the nice pubs will have people in there who are a bit lacking in intelligence and emotional development that will just drink to stupid levels this week and it rarely ends well when that happens. They will have been bored off their tits getting pissed at home and they'll be straining at the leash this week. It ruins an evening out having to watch fights, beer glasses getting hoyed around, all the screaming and shouting and chimpanzee like posturing with the arms in the air. I'm just not in a rush to join the show.

Aside from the Bigg Market at 3am on a Sunday morning, I've never seen that sort of behaviour anywhere. Especially not pubs. In fact I've never seen a beer glass chucked in my life.

It's table service and groups of 6 max. It's hardly prime conditions for acting like a tit and bumping into people. I'd be stunned if you see scenes like that all over the place. Maybe in the grimmest of pubs before closing.

I saw more bother in pubs 35 years ago when I started drinking than I see now.

honest truth, in all my years working in and drinking in pubs in sunderland, the ones i frequent i've never seen anything like you've mentioned.

aye, the town centre on a saturday night back in the day, it was par for the course, but not in normal pubs.

we had all this last summer when they were about to open, it''ll be chaos, hell on etc.. and it was anything but, for 99% of people.

you are making sweeping generalisations about the proportion of fuck-nuts that will be about. people 'lacking in intelligence and emotional development' 'straining at the leash' to 'drink to stupid levels' . and you accuse me of being judgemental? i dont know a single person who that could apply to

Is everywhere a booking system today or is it first come first serve like?
in sunderland it seems like about 50/50 split. loads of places are walk-in only.

i guess if places were taking bookings and weren't fully booked when you walked up, they wouldnt be turning you away
