It's f***ing ridiculous this comparing of seasons.

The only way you can compare seasons is if you play the exact same teams in the exact same order with the exact same lineups, then compare results otherwise your comparing apples and pears.

FFS @The Fish is using shots at goal, shots on target, possession, saves made, etc,etc......to try and big up Rafa.
No, I'm showing how we regressed from one season to the next, to criticise Bruce. Some of that is because we stupidly let Rondon and Perez go without proper replacements, the defensive side is because Bruce isn't very good at sorting out a defence. You lot are the ones who insist on bringing up Benitez.

I would quite happily show how shit we are in most performance metrics (and in terms of entertainment) vs the other teams, but those arguing with me seem to base their argument purely on how many points we've got, except for when I'm using points to show how Bruce has regressed even from last year, then it's not points, it's league position...
It has to come down to what performances are like, and the direction that the season has gone in.

For example in Bruce's first season here we finished 13th, but we were in the top 10 for the first half of the season, before falling away a bit and being lower mid table until May, Darren Bent got 24 goals.

In the PDC/Poyet season we finished 14th, got to a cup final, another cup QF but were in the bottom 3 for pretty much the entire season, barring a few weeks in midseason and the last 3-4 games.

I will say the Poyet season had much higher high points but it's no comparison really. But on paper you see 13th vs 14th not much difference.
Definitely. 96/97 was very much a regression from 95/96, yet we finished 2nd both times.

I've only mentioned Benitez when others have brought it up. My point, from the off, was that League position is affected by other teams' performances in other games and, as such, isn't the best marker for your teams' progress/decline.

Team A gets 39pts every season for 4 years, they can finish 17th, 15th, and so on. According to some on here, finishing 15th on 39pts shows progress.

This whole conversation has been the usual suspects seeing the name of the person who posted it, and reacting to that, rather than the argument and it must be f***ing boring to everyone else.
The whole point of a league table Is to measure yourself against others in that league. They will change from year to year as your own squad would. A very competitive league on year may see 10th need 50pts or 48 the next. 10th is still 10th you still finished midtable!

No need to sware at us. If you feel vi timised perhaps it because your a mag on our board posting about NUFC. Maybe you could join a newcastle board. For me it's not the poster it's the argument much as it is with net spend and a number of others to show up an owner who clearly isn't as bad as you make him out. Perhaps if you'd not behaved in the way you have he'd listen or plan ahead more. You have the team you deserve and all the crying on here can't help you. You'll get no sympathy from us. If you don't like that tough.

The state of the mags on here man  Aye Id love to finish 17th with more points than the previous season where we finished 3 or 4 places higher but with less points :lol:

Yes, the league table is to mark how you performed in that season against those teams. Your points total is something you can directly affect, nobody elses.

Blaming the fans for Ashley when, at first, he was welcomed with open arms, is ridiculous. It's his actions that reaped our reactions. He himself has admitted he's not been a good owner, that he's made many mistakes. If we say he's been bad, other fanbases say he's been bad, ex-managers and players have said he's bad, pundits and journalists have said he's bad, and Mike Ashley says he's been bad, why is it only Sunderland fans who don't agree?

We have a midtable team, with a Championship manager. A manager that no other PL side would have employed, and who would be avoided by a fair few in the second tier. We have that manager because Ashley can't pick a good manager unless they fall in his lap.

By your rationale, are Sunderland in League 1 because their fans deserve that?

Again you completely missed the point
If you don't feel like your being responded to with the answers yilou want do yourself and us a favour and do one. You have a team largely assembled (a a large cost) by a "world class manger" Bruce has managed more prem games than your last manager and if you go down you'll get no sympathy here. No wonder so many use the ignore function.

Thus far, the only people I've seen praise Ashley aside from Sunderland fans are those troll fans that every club has. The kind that will insist all Man Utd fans are from Sussex, or that Man City don't have any real fans, y'know, *****.
Ah right...so the one's not saying what you want to hear?

Who wants sympathy? I come on here to see differing opinions. Trouble is, there are people who'll say night is day if a Mag shows them the Sun.

Nah, the minority who think supporting their team is reliant on hating other ones.

Hmmm first link I found when I typed "Is Mike Ashley a bad owner" into google and this popped up from a Burnley forum. A lot of people on there saying he isnt as bad as mags make out and thats just the first page I looked at so that blows your argument out of the water straight away

I'm sure people scroll past my posts thinking they are dull but likewise I am now started to scroll post the ones by the Fish. Meanwhile some of the other mags are coming across as decent lads.
