A Fulham and Brighton win this weekend and they will be fuming. Anything different and they will be safe

I dont think a draw at Brighton will be enough for them. The mags run of games after the international break is terrible and even with their front 3 back you can't see them picking up much.

Wouldn't fancy going to Fulham needing a win on the last day

If we were in their position, would we ever contemplate getting relegated two divisions just so we could participate in that cup and win it?

Seriously?

That’s a bizarre way of looking at it? The fact is we ARE two divisions below them so should we feel ashamed of winning a trophy that we have to participate in? No.

That's Edwards house being shouted at.
The level of delusion is incredible.

By the standards of the day that was regression as defined by those running #NUFC Liverpool had won trophies under Houllier but decided to replace him with Benitez that v summer. That was how a well run club operated with whom we were on similar standing. Shepherd fluffed it.

Only in their own minds were they of similar standing to Liverpool.

Quote from the Mag

"lupa

I'm sat here a little bit p*ss£d and emotional, thinking about the consequences of relegation.we are going to be absolutely £ked.
I love this club and have done for 60 years
Of all the people who deserve helicopters going down its you you fat c##t"

Begging mass murderers to buy them and wishing for helicopter crashes. Perhaps they could suggest the Saudis arrange this.

They genuinely are the most backward, repugnant, disgusting set of people on earth.

Jesus wept man

The whole point of a league table is its placings. With the Premier league your also looking at aprrox £1million increase in prize money for each place. They don't award prize money in the same way for points, so that shows what the league themselves think of difference between points and placings. At the end of the day clubs are formed to be as high in the table as they can be not to beat points tally each year if it doesnt get them higher in the league. Its akin to people arguing over possession or XG stats. They're all very well but what matters in league placings, winning trophies and winning leagues.
I didn't say that placings were entirely immaterial. I was simply stating that for teams in the midtable positions getting more points is a sign of progression. Even if that isn't reflected in final league position. e.g. 45pts can get you anywhere between 10th and 15th (off the top of my head.) One season you get 43pts and sit pretty in 13th, the next season you're 15th on 45pts. By your rationale, the team has regressed, even though it's got more points and cannot impact the position of other teams outside it's own fixtures. That's daft.

Ok what if the three promoted teams are absolutely gash and everyone hammers them?
You'd likely end up with more points, doesn't mean you've progressed though as the league wasn't as strong that season.

If the other 17 teams gets an extra 18pts each from the 6 games against the promoted sides, you'd just look at the points and goals and whatnot outside of those fixtures.

I honestly think this is now just a case of arguing the person, rather than the point.

Now you're just being silly, suggesting three teams will end up on zero points.

The point still stands if the three promoted teams are gash then the other teams will likely finish with more points.

You could realistically end up with more points, and more goals scored thanks to those teams but be 3-4 places lower in the table.

Teams have survived with 36 points, yet others have been relegated with 40. Points are irrelevant when compared to position.

Would you call it progressing if you were relegated on 40 points after surviving the previous season on less?

You literally said, "everyone hammers them", so I was going off that.

So, as you say, league positions are as reliant on other teams' performances and thus aren't the only measure of progress/decline? If Sunderland finish 10th one season and 13th the next despite winning more points, have they regressed?

I've covered this. When talking about title, or relegation, league position is the only thing that matters. I'me talking about the midtable stodge, where progress can be seen in the points column.

Of course they've regressed, if Man City win the league and then finish third the season after with more points have they regressed?

No two seasons are the same, three teams go up and three go down, you can't use points gained as you're not playing the same teams.

Man City are gonna win the league this season.
If they win all their remaining games, they will get 85 points.
In 2018 they finished 1st with 100 points.

Are both seasons equally as good?

Really, I don’t know anyone who looks back and remembers the season they won say, 57 points. I remember the seasons we finished 7th under Reidy, but have no idea how many points we had in each of them.

A bit of friendly advice for you, log off now as I sense you’re going to have another one of those days where every just laughs at you.
