India v England series

I can’t accept England players missing Tests for the IPL either.

I agree but there are only really two options;

1) take a hard line - players have to choose where their loyalties lie and aren't considered for test cricket. The downside of this is you risk losing the likes of Stokes, Buttler to the test match game altogether and water down the product.

2) Have a rotation policy where on occasion these players miss some test matches which also weakens test match cricket by perhaps to a lesser degree.
Is it the players decision or management saying that’s what they want the player to do? There is no way Ben Stokes would rather play IPL than play test cricket for England

You are more confident than I am. I'm sure he prefers test match cricket but in a sport where he has only a few years left he will want to maximise his income I would have thought.

It’s the players on the IPL

England could demand they come home but that’s gonna be cause problems

Stokes n Buttler n co wouldn’t come early or offer to
He can fuck off. If that happens to the level it did in India and we lose in Australia, he’ll never be forgiven by the fans.

What about the players? You think he doesn’t want his best players for the NZ series? He has no choice

He’ll have a choice in Australia though. There’s no reason to rotate anyone but for fitness reasons.

He still gets paid by his IPL team doesn’t he. He would only miss the final couple of games

He doesn’t want to

He wouldn’t get paid in full no

Aye not for ashes

We will do it against India at home I bet though

In a year where everything is flexible the players believe that the IPL isn’t and want to play in it all

It’s poor, don’t sign your ecb contracts

I’ve said it before, the games they miss for England should be deducted from their central contracts and their pay calculated pro-rata on availability.

The IPL has been the biggest problem to English cricket for over a decade and as it is getting bigger it is being played more and more into the English summer. It is a major headache for the ECB and I would imagine the powers that be in India are quite happy about it.
I can see a time when England probably can't play top level international cricket at home in the early months of the season because their top players and the oppositions top players want to be involved in the IPL.

On a related note, does anyone know about the TV schedules for the 20/20s? The games start next Friday and I believe that Channel 4 has the rights to them. But nothing is showing on the TV schedules right now.

I post up a weekly tv thread but Sky have the rights for the T20s and ODIs, starting Friday 12 march at 130pm
