The last time I saw him bowl was when he played against Durham at Stockton in around 2005.

He was impressive and when Simon Jones got injured before the final Ashes Test I did wonder if they'd recall him, for a one off game, as the 4th seamer, backing up Harmison, Hoggard and Flintoff.

In the end they went with Collingwood, who didn't make many runs iirc

Mike Athertons (excellent) Autiobiography describes Caddick as someone who really needed a lot of praise and encouragement, or his head would hit his chest quite easily.

As with Caddick and Gough he was never really top class though.

The 4/5 bowlers in most cases simply wern't good enough during that era.

Better average than Broad, against some of the great batsmen of the modern game.

If we'd had a better team and won more games he'd have been remembered more positively.

I always thought his heart was not big enough - good when he is on the upside but nothing when on the receiving end.

Atherton certainly describes him as needing a lot of reassurance. I stand to be corrected on this, but I also believe Atherton referred to his relatively poor statistics in the oppositions second innings' compared to their first. No a bloke who liked being 'under the pump', as our antipodean cousins would say.

It was the other way around. Poor in the first innings, and great in the second (37 average v 21). Skews further from 1st through to 4th innings. 41, 33, 23, 18 respectively. Obviously pitches tend to wear, but that's a pretty exceptional pattern.

Yea Fraser was the one I thought who criminally underrated. Should have been up there with Gough at least. Caddick was a step down.

The other 90s regular was Cork who was basically a toss-up with Caddick, obviously didn't play quite as many Tests but average basically the same.
Fraser was a steady Eddie who held an end down but a notch down from a McGrath.

Very few players were in McGrath's league. Still a very good player in that mould. WI hated batting against him

Cork hat trick was one of the most amazing moments of 90's cricket. Shame he would follow up a performance like that with shite next match.

Dean Hedley was really good, unlucky with injuries.

Drove Bumble mad with no balls apparently - ballsed up yet another run up which apparently had the dressing room in stitches, with Bumble head-between-knees muttering "Headless, Headless, what are you doing to me".

Only came to England to play cricket, unlike some others who were born overseas and moved at a young age. We could make a canny side out of other countries players

Strauss
Trott
Smith
Hussain
Pietersen
Stokes
Prior
Lewis
Caddick
Archer
Malcolm

that’s just in my time.

obviously some, like Stokes, moved at a young age and the world is a different place now in terms of how global it is etc
Also Hick and Lamb
