Roker End 1976

Was compared to the great Richard Hadlee at start of his test career.
Did Caddick under perform or over perform during his test career ?

Before my time really. But first I'm hearing of him being a kiwi.

We've been the kings of playing other countries players. English heritage or not.

Hard era for bowlers mind. So to average under 30 must have been canny

Only came to England to play cricket, unlike some others who were born overseas and moved at a young age. We could make a canny side out of other countries players

obviously some, like Stokes, moved at a young age and the world is a different place now in terms of how global it is etc
 
Alongside Gough he was England's best bowler throughout the 90s.
Never hit the heights of a genuine world class bowler either mind.....especially compared to other teams attacks in that era...
 
Think he did pretty well, Bowled some magic spells, loved to bend the ball round West Indian bats in particular and didn't offer much when it were flat. That's the difference I guess with the real world class bowlers is they can make things happen or at least bowl dry. I think he did fine. I think there were a few question marks because he had such a skewed record (1st innings average was 37 v 2nd innings bowling average was 21 - skewed even further if you broke it down to 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th innings in the match). So yea he was a bit of a feast or famine bowler.

I guess he could have done a little bit better with the bat. But then batting in English FC cricket is rather different to Test cricket, so who knows.

I reckon you could argue the case of two, one of those I think was always criminally underrated, not least by England and definitely better. The other is a toss-up.

There's a third who I think was better but alas didn't get to play that much.

Not sure how you can put the likes of Strauss, Hussain and Prior in with Archer and Pietersen like

They moved to England when they were still at primary school

they're British not "other countries players"

This is the most borderline worrying post I've seen for a while.

So to add to it, Gerraint Jones back up keeper, Patterson, Jennings, Robson, Chris Lewis and Gladstone Small all in the bubble, ready for a trip home.

Not sure what you're talking about but Angus Fraser was the best and most consistent England bowler of the 1990's: 165 wickets at 26.86, 13 fiver-fers (7 more than Gough).

but not sure it even needs mentioning on some

I had an issue with Morgan personally, he is Irish, not Britis, dont see how you can work in a country for a few years then just change nationality

even Pietersen and Archer had British passports, even though they would say themselves they dont consider to be British
 
Had his moments but usually in favourable conditions. I can't really remember him troubling many top batting attacks or offering much when the conditions weren't in his favour.
 
Yea Fraser was the one I thought who criminally underrated. Should have been up there with Gough at least. Caddick was a step down.

The other 90s regular was Cork who was basically a toss-up with Caddick, obviously didn't play quite as many Tests but average basically the same.
 
As another poster mentioned he could be a bit feast or famine but he was probably my favourite bowler growing up, when he was good he was great to watch and his stats certainly don't suggest he under-performed. He was unarguably one of the best bowlers we had available to us at the time.
 
Lower grade Broad! When the conditions where in his favour and his gander was up he looked quality but other times looked like a big stuff arse.
But like all English bowlers in the 90s did not have the benefit of a central contract so had to slog it out in county cricket between tests instead of resting.
