October 2020 - Getting worse across Europe.

The AZ vaccine is very much looked down on in Spain also, rightly or wrongly I dont know.

It's getting a bit like "Phone snobbery" If you want to phone someone, any phone will do...if you want to live, any vaccine will do.

Seen on facebook: "Well me myself, I'm gonna hang on for the J & J one" It's not a sweet shop darling.

I quite agree tbf, but it is a bit strange the rep the AZ vaccine is getting, following the UK news it seems great but everywhere else something amiss, not sure what to make of it.

We can only go off what our experts and scientists tell us.
It went in my arm last weekend so time will tell.
But I expect to get one every year now, just like the flu jab.

They will use them when they getting around to vaccinating the under 65s (and in some cases under 55s).

It just looks to us outside the UK that there is better data available for all the other vaccines. That and the severe side effects to the AZ doesn't seem to be discussed in the UK. In an FT article, someone drew attention in the comments that in Sweden a batch of the AZ had to be suspended because of the severe side effects and in France, the medics would prefer the other vaccine because of this as well (they don't want to spend a couple of days out of work dealing with the side effects).

Much of the discussion in Ireland is about how effective the vaccines will be against variants and how to control this. So far there is the UK variant, the Bristol variant, the Brazil variant and SA variant. The only ones we seem to have gotten are the UK one and the Bristol one.

I suppose the attitude here in Ireland is that this isn't over until Covid-19 is suppressed and everyone is vaccinated and the country won't be really opening up again until that happens which will probably be the late summer.

This thing keeps changing all the time and we don't know how long any of the vaccines will be effective for. There will be a few more twists in this pandemic before its sorted.
Am not sure why we in the UK should be discussing the "severe side effects" from Sweden or France when we have vaccinated millions , with barely any reported side effects ?

There was a vested interest in putting down the AZ originally. The French thought they had Sanofi which failed and had to be scrapped. Then the U.K. started vaccinating before the EU countries had put their running shoes on. Again they rubbished AZ as a reason for not having stocks available.
In reality politicians have rubbished the AZ vaccine to cover their arses and now their public want nothing to do with it. Can you blame them?

Meanwhile in the real world, the U.K. have vaccinated around twenty million people. Going by the poll on this forum Pfizer and AZ are being used in equal amounts. They are being used in exactly the age groups that politicians said they wouldn’t be effective in, yet the real world results coming through show that they are very effective in that age group.

As for side effects, as I said earlier around twenty million people have been vaccinated and apparently none of them have had severe side effects. Most have sore arms, headaches or feel a bit tired for a couple of days. The media are desperate for a negative vaccine story but so far none of them have managed to find one. Probably because there isn’t one to find.

So the EU politicians have one thing to do to remedy this situation. They need to get down on their knees and apologise for lying to the public. They need to say AZ is both safe and effective in all age groups and to prove it every politician needs to roll their sleeve up on live National tv and be vaccinated with AZ. They also owe an apology to the company and employees who developed and make AZ.

Maybe just pissed because we left the EU, which might in the long term effect them. Temporary xenophobia has many triggers.

I had it 3 weeks ago felt slightly lethargic the next day, might only have been a coincidence. All the people I know who’s had it haven’t had any untoward side effects!

Anyones...my brother picks a different country to get angry about every day of his life. But as someone has recently said, it looks like their own politicians have put the knife in.
i think i know what you meant.
my reply was really for those who think it's only the british who can be xenophobic.

Read a lot about Israels roll out being the best in the world so checked their figures expecting to be impressed, very disappointing tbf.Not sure what vaccine they are using and not suggesting it isn't working just expected a lot better, they could be fully opened up which makes a difference.

My 76-year old Mother had it around the same time - no side effects whatsoever.

I had the Pfizer vaccine 10 days ago and sweated like a b@stard for two days afterwards. When I had the flu vaccine before Christmas, I had no ill effects but my missus was ill for a day after hers.

Side effects happen with all vaccines. They happen to different people in different ways and with differing levels of severity - sometimes it's just a reaction to the needle itself.

All this talk of 'severe' side-effects coming out of the EU is politically-motivated and generated bullsh!t to try and mitigate the damage caused by the reckless posturing of their politicians.
