Whisky

I've just booked a cottage near Campbeltown for a week in June so hopefully a week of golf, walking and whisky awaits. A visit to Cadenheads shop would be wonderful if restrictions allow.

They’re open for bottle collection only at the moment but hopefully back to something close to normal by then. Recommend the Skipness fish shack if you’re in the Campbeltown area and the Gigha Boathouse if you’re around Macrihanish.

Thanks. We aren't far from both Campbeltown and Machrihanish. We are staying pretty much at the end of the A road before it heads East to Campbeltown.

Seems like the opportunity to ask/discuss

As trip to Islay cancelled last year we're about to book a summer trip to Speyside and lined up a place near Aberlour.

If distilleries open by then any suggestions ?
Would like to visit Aberlour and Glenfarclas and Glenallachie as we are all fans of their malts.
Any other good tours nearby ?

Be careful - we drove 60 miles through a mountain pass, near Cairngorms, at Easter time to The Glenlivet - to find it was shut. I was gutted :(

Distilleries have peculiar opening times. Same at Talisker one year.

I'm the one who will be doing bookings...fairly organised ( anal about things like that) so itinery will be planned and booked well in advance ;)

Benriach is a decent tour, especially if you have Stuart MacPherson taking you round. I'd normally say Glen Grant is worth visiting for the distillery garden - can't see that being as popular amongst a group of blokes. Macallan to see teletubbie land. The Glenlivet cafe does an excellent breakfast, can't say I was so bothered about the tour. Not a distillery but definitely worth checking out the Highlander Inn in that neck of the words. Fantastic whisky bar.

Finally went in on one of these little fella's, got to be worth a punt at the price.

My parents were taken on a tour of the Benromach distillery by Keith Cruickshank, needless to say they had a wonderful time. Definitely on my bucket list to pay them a visit some day.

Just killing a bottle of the Kilkerran heavily peated cask strength. Stupidly good value £37.50

Any other suggestions for ridiculous bang for buck...will chuck in foreign sites of Glenfarclas 105 litre bottles at £35

Got me dad a Bowmore 15 for Christmas, he gave me the money yesterday to get him 2 more bottles.

I've been on a self-imposed buying ban since December, still have dozens of unopened bottles.

Cracked under the strain and went for Bunnahabhain Stiureadair from Amazon for £22.50, curious to try it as I've seen decent reviews and have loved the 12 over and over.

Was past talk about it being a partial replacement for the superb 12...
It's not quite as good as the 12 and often in supermarkets at £25...£22.50 is a really good price.

I'd prefer this over many more expensive malts with an age statement on it, certainly at the price point.

It's one of the few bottles I really couldn't get on with and I ended up blending it with something else just to get rid. That said, I'm not a sherry bomb fan so wouldn't be the best judge, there was just something about it I found quite unpleasant. Nothing like (or as good as) the 12 IMO.
I'm happy with say the Glenfarclas 15 or but once we get to Glenallachie and Edradour levels of sherry then it's not for me.

What do the different codes mean ?
The 07.3 was rather nice 👍
Batches and barley used iirc, remember looking it up myself once. Never tried it though, mainly due to its cost lol. I love a nice peated whisky but not sure I've had anything that can compare to the levels mentioned with octomore.
