Was in before lockdown for cans not haircut !! They have an ok selection (plus I never got lectured. Possibly a different fella who served me as didn’t come across as a total dick as mentioned above).
The Little shop in Sunderland ciity centre has a much better selection and often some real rare treats. You can defo just turn up there.

Little Shop is class and yes they do get more obscure stuff in at times. Port Bierhaus is good as well. Blues in Whitburn has a cracking selection, lovely couple who have it, and he's a MLF as well. All 3 have always been really friendly.

Didn’t know about blues. I’ll have a look. Ta very much !
Aye port beer house was canny, went in prior to lockdown two (or is it 3 now ??! Ffs). They focused on the more local beers which is a great shout, although I have to say I’m not a fan of the new (supposed) vaux beers. Was a very bold, and I think cheeky move calling themselves Vaux but I figured they must be onto something good to be so confident to takeover a Sunderland institution’s name so was looking forward to it. I’ve been disappointed so far.
Maxim brewery are doing a much better job of keeping the Vaux name alive in my opinion.

Vaux are brewing modern hop forward beers. Maxim do the traditional stuff. There's certainly more than enough room for both of them, and they're both good at what they do. Vaux should improve now they've got their own kit and head brewer in place.

Aye mate Maxim are sticking to the old school beers. Only really double maxim of theirs that I like but I love that it’s done really well and is keeping an old Sunderland beer alive.
There’s definitely room for two Sunderland brewers.
I’m more of a fan of the modern hop beers, ipas & funked up stouts. Even found myself getting into the Belgian lambic & gueuze stuff which I hated a few years back.
My point was that I was disappointed with the new company Vaux beers. None of them have been very good in my opinion. Which is fine, look at S43 and how they’ve come on in leaps & bounds since their new American brewer joined. Love em now but it took a while to get there. Years and years. .
Hopefully the new Vaux will at some point start to churn out good beers. But I still feel it was a silly and insulting idea to call themselves Vaux and I know a lot of people who feel more passionately about it than I do.

Bought some more Samson from the Maxim brewery today. Crazy how much nicer it is out of the bottle.

I really want to have a look in the place in the op once we are allowed back again mind.
