Scalpers

I think they're f***ing scum but I'm on team scalper tbh.

Sourcing a product then selling it at a profit is how retail works.
Can't agree.

There is no need for them in this instance. The product doesn't need them.

Whereas some products do. The farmer who sorts his milk out hasn't the time to go direct to the shops so he uses the middleman to do this and people are fine with it as without it the supply chain my fall over.

This isn't the case with these items. It is people taking advantage. I'd rather they were just honest enough to say that they are profiting from a shortage rather than trying to say they are a required service.

It doesn't matter whether there's a need for them, I don't think they're required. Lots of roles aren't needed or required, it doesn't mean they shouldn't exist.

If you or I can source a product and sell it for a profit it should be our right to do so.

The scalpers should also have that right even though, again, I think they're f***ing scum.

Which is what I've said. Just come out and say that you are doing. Don't try and justify it by saying you are a required service when everyone can see that's bollocks. We all know it's gone on for years with thousands of products, but just say what it is.

Scum, up there with ticket touts

It was exactly like trying to buy gig tickets trying to get the new consoles like.
All the wankers have done, besides making themselves a tidy profit, is probably drive the price of consoles up moving forward. No chance Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo see the prices they’ve been going for and don’t think about upping the price another £50 quid at least

It's not a new phenomenon with consoles. They haven't done that previously, I can't see them starting now.

If they feel they’ve underpriced themselves they’ll not make same mistakes again
Selling consoles at a loss when they first come out isn't a rarity (though I don't think that's happened this gen both the PS4 and XB1 were when they first came out). I don't think Nintendo do it, their consoles always seem to have scalpers and Nintendo still don't raise the prices.

They want to get them under as many TVs as they can, the real money is in subs and games. If someone makes a bit of cash as a middleman it doesn't really make any difference to the manufacturer.

If someone is just buying just buying FIFA every year as long as they're spending a bit of money on UT Sony and MS get their slice.

I think it’s only been the ps3(Sony got shamed into lowering the price of it) and the first xbox that was sold at a loss at launch like, probably wrong
Can’t remember a launch like this though, 3 months in demand still sky high, people still buying off scalpers. I think they’ll up the price. Sony have already upped the price of games again

I've just looked it up.

PS3 was initially sold at about a $240 loss, the 360 was sold at a $125 loss.
PS4 was about a $60 loss initially, the XB1 at $28.

It works that way because dairy producers etc don't have the relevant distribution to sell without a middle-person like Tesco etc.

However, PS5 sellers have a distribution network and are themselves the middle-person. A scalper is a 4th person who provides no added value in the chain but takes the biggest cut in relation to fee margin.

TBF I made a f***ing killing off Peter Kay tickets

What scalpers are doing is no different to you or I buying a product and flogging it on ebay or amazon.

I'm not saying they are adding value, I'm saying that adding value isn't necessary to have the right to exist.

Christ, retailers aren't essential these days. Sony could cut them out and sell their consoles exclusively through their website if they wanted to.

It is very different IMO. They are using bots and systems to grab ALL stock as soon as it comes up.

So? Equipping yourself with a tool doesn't make a difference one way or the other.

I accept they are knobs.

I don't accept that they shouldn't be able to exist.

Things would be much easier if the retailers just allowed 1 console per address or payment card.

Also I don’t understand why they don’t just take back orders and say stock will be distributed in the order of orders placed as more stock comes in. That way everyone knows they’ll get one eventually.
