Vaughan was using this image as a justification to end lockdowns and not take a virus seriously; a virus that has, at the very least, hastened the deaths of over 100k people in this country.

His perception of the 1940s is that everyone carried on life as normal. This is, of course, complete baloney. What Vaughan was asking for with that nonsensical meme more or less equates to people demanding the end of blackouts, rationing and foreign travel because they and their friends personally hadn’t been hit by a Nazi bomb and didn’t see what all the fuss was about.

Strauss and Atherton are two former England captains, both are Tories, both have been linked with even running as a Tory MP, yet both are liked and respected on here, especially Strauss.

Just in the interests of balance, I’m going to label anyone who thinks Michael Vaughan shouldn’t go round the country on a tour to find every Yorkshireman to tell them why you shouldn’t kill women in cold blood with ball hammers an extreme rightist.

Anyway, back to cricket, Vaughan was a very fine cricketer, superb to watch at his best, and a smart captain; he probably led the most exciting England test side of my life. He is however a complete pillock with a mic and a platform.

Aye fair play, I used to think it was a bit of an act, then I met him through a work thing, and my opinion worsened, then I didn't like him in the KP thing, then he started airing his opinions on politics and covid, and it confirmed my instinct

I think you're right.

He believes what he says, no doubt, but he's an attention seeker so screams them even louder.

When you look at the statesmen of the game - Sachin, Strauss, Pointing, Gilchrist, Holding etc - it's embarrassing to see our most celebrated modern captain embarrassing himself globally on the regular
