Social distancing

I am waiting for the planned Feb 22nd decision on whether to open schools and the relaxation of restrictions.
I reckon schools opening will be the only relaxation of restrictions in March and they will give it another 4 weeks to see what effect that has before doing anything else. I'm just guessing like.

People have continued to think of dates earlier than reality. Then each time the time has past they've opted for another earlier than predicted date. March was the big one on here until recently, when it dawned on them that there's no chance.

No chance of what?

It's hard to read these articles that suggest the vaccine may not stop transmissions and how life won't change this year, especially after we were promised Xmas would be normal, then it was Easter, now I presume Hancock and Johnson will tell us that summer is the next "back to normal" stage

I suppose, if we can at least return to the rule of 6 (indoors and outdoors) with pubs and restaurants open (subject to SD) without a massive spike in cases/deaths/admissions then that might be an "Ok" solution for many people.

April.

Normality. Gets shifted all the time by the 'I'm giving it til then' brigade

Anybody who recently thought we'd be going to gigs, football matches and travelling around wanted their head checked but then I don't think anyone did.

Someone posted on here that 90% of deaths are made up of elderly and vulnerable. They should be vaccinated by March so you would think deaths should drop considerably to < 100 a day.

They seem confident these vaccines work with the newer strains and tougher border measures are being introduced so there should be no reason for us to not be in the position that New Zealand and Australia are in now.

I've already seen fuckwits on twitter suggesting that they're fiddling the death figures currently and labeling everything as covid and that'll continue so even though the vaccine rollout ramps up the deaths won't drop and restrictions won't ease.

We are ahead of the game with vaccines and we are an island we need to use those to our advantage and get back to normal ASAP

Seems counter productive, vaccinating everyone vulnerable but keeping the borders closed.

I hope so. Personally speaking, I found 2020 easy to manage because I pushed all my emotions into 2021 when "everything would be back to normal"
Then, to get to Dec 2020 and find that 9 months later we were i a far worse position was devastating. It has made 2021 much harder to handle and to stay positive. If it's April before we can see our loved ones, then so be it but any later than that and it's going to be hard. I'm desperate to get on a plane and see my sister

Exactly how a lot of people feel. With 10 million vaccinated I'm struggling to understand why people are predicting such a bleak prognosis. Is it a lack of faith in the vaccine or a belief that restrictions should remain in place until severe illness is virtually eradicated.

Surely the current roll out will see hospital figures reduced to negligible levels (sub 50) by March. Is that still too high to relax restrictions substantially? If not, I'm not sure why...

I think ( and this certainly goes for me) that people expected the vaccine to stop you getting the virus and stop you passing it on. Now they are saying they don't know if it will stop you getting/transmitting whish, whilst it's great for the death rate, it doesn't really change anything. Or does it? If vaccinated, are we all now fine to catch covid as we probably won't even know we have it?

If it prevents serious illness which is what it's purported to do then I'm not really sure why we would carry on living the way we are to prevent transmission.

Yeah. Guess so. That's probably the best we can hope for. As long as I know I'm not going to die if I get it, then bring it on I suppose.....
