A love Supreme have written something for True Faith about Bruce’s time with you. Was an interesting read and definitely see the parallels. Didn’t realise he had so much to spend and your record signing in Gyan.

You not seen that piece by Luoise Tyalor in the Gruniad from a decade ago? It's staggeringly apposite.

The only stats you need are these

Sunland W 26 D 30 L 34 over league games. Three league wins in 11 months at home in 11/12 season

Mags to date W16 D 15 L 26 covering 57league games

Obviously not seen the piece, but Bruce inherited the job at Sunderland in the most favourable position of any manager I've seen at the club.

He had a committed billionaire writing the cheques, a decent core of PL proven players (Gordon, Richardson, Reid, Malbranque, Jones), a number of sellable assets and a club legend running the day-to-day who clearly rated him highly providing us a bit of rare stability. We've never had a better opportunity for success, that we didn't even get a bloody cup run or a chance to play in Europe was a massive letdown.

As if a manager that openly said he doesn’t do tactics a decade ago still has a job in then premier league (actually in any league). It’s like me going to work and saying I don’t really do typing.

You’ve pretty much summed up what they said really. He had every opportunity at his disposal and it just gradually fell apart. One of my biggest criticisms of him is he does not get enough out of a decent squad. And the players are individually going backwards.

I thought when he was here he never was able to keep big name players happy or get the best out of them. I think he struggled with egos. The likes of Gyan, Jones, Muntari, Malbranque, Cana, Bent, Sessegnon either underperformed under him or were asking to leave after a year.

In the end, we reverted to his favourite type of player: Good lads who run around a lot. When you were linked to Van Gaal and Advocaat, and ended up with Bruce, it's a massive disappointment.

It's the sentence about the central midfield lacking creativity and control that sticks out for me. I don't believe the squad is bottom 3 material, it's bottom half, but should be fairly comfortable in this season.

I mean, we could play a 4-2-3-1 and do alright. Instead we're flitting between formations, and we're changing personnel after every game. It's a mess.

The thing is with Bruce hes very well thought of from inside the game, pals doing punditry etc and given how he seeks to deflect blame away from himself at any given opportunity he didn't actually get any real publicised criticism in his time here. Of course hes trying the same shit with you lot now.

A lot in the media would say he was sacked here because our fans hounded him out for being a Geordie, where in reality we had a very good squad and he underachieved given where we were at Christmas in his first two seasons, before a significant winless run in each season, the same as you're having now. Having dismantled a lot fo the quality in the side and replaced them with inferior players he then had a stinking start to the season, alarming given we usually had a new year slump.

You'll win tonight
We won't. I think he's lost a lot of he dressing room. I can see a mental score tonight. I think Leeds might eclipse the score they gave us at their place.
The body language on a lot of players says it all for me and I always try to see positives, even if they're weak one's.
I just can't see anything from all this, lately.

I'd love a miraculous turn around but I can't see it.

Feeling conflicted now reading the Mags moaning on here...maybe a drab nil nil with big Andy scoring the winner in the 91st would be more fun tonight? 😕

just shows what Bruce was like though....average at best. I looked when he brought in Jeff Hendrick and immediately thought, another journeyman player similar to the likes of Gardiner, Larrson and The welsh wing wizard from Blackpool

That entire window ruined Bruce. In one foul swoop he replaced all of the pace and movement we had the season before (Welbeck, Gyan, Henderson etc etc) with a load of one paced plodders.

Even the other night Jamie Redknapp insisting that no other manager could do anything different with the squad. I mean that’s just absolute nonsense. Things have turned a bit and I feel like he’s a dead man walking now. He will cling on because he will never now manage another premier league club I would guess.

Spot on. Jeff Hendrick is probably a nice lad in the dressing room and quiet or whatever but he is an awful awful player. Having said that, it would be interesting to see if a different manager could get more out of the likes of him.

Lampard will be Bruce's eventual replacement, I reckon.

They love a 'name'
I've always thought the whole Keegan thing was bizarre. I was just a kid in the 70s but he was undoubtedly an icon - for Liverpool! Not for nufc. Won nowt there, won loads for the scousers...
Ditto Bobby Robson winning stuff for Barca an Ipswich but getting a statue at St James for what? Qualifying for europe?? it's farcical
