Sri Lanka v England (2nd test) 22nd/26th Jan

I would have liked Stone to play. We need 3 fast bowlers going to Australia, all 3 should be given game time this year prior to the ashes
Stone wouldn't play ahead of broad Jimmy archer wood Curran or woakes we will have stokes as well do he probably won't get a game

Stone was tipped to play so I suspect he's sustained another injury leading to Wood's inclusion. Wood only bowled 26 overs in the 1st test over 4 days anyway and his workload will probably be similarly light in this test. Don't think it infers anything about the Indian series where Archer was always going to be 1st choice.

Seems a bit pointless playing Jimmy here

Why? Broad was brilliant on here

We need someone to bowl cutters and dry

Don’t think so mate the journos in the know saying wood n Curran to be rested for first 2 tests of India

That’s why they are playing back to back.
Well Wood won’t be fit to play in all 5 tests. Woakes/Curran would be a disaster in Australia. 2 of Wood/Archer/Stone should be playing in every test along with either Jimmy/Broad

It depends on how many spinners for India

If we play 3 Seamers are it’s Archer plus like Woakes and broad, that’s not good enough

I’m just surprised Wood is getting rested for the first 2 tests of indian series, in my opinion they are the biggest 2 tests of the winter, and I was expecting wood to play with archer

It’s worth noting that wood has been brilliant lately and won us games abroad, Archer hasn’t, so it’s a gamble

Woods last ball of the last test was 92mph. We are yet to see if archer can do that.

Should have been rested this test instead of Next 2

Yeah Maybe instead of wood

But it’s worth pointing out it’s a the test championship and England really need to win this 2-0

Lot of talk about stone but he’s not as quick as archer and wood

Odd decision not to rest wood and play him in back to back tests on spin friendly pitches.

Stokes and Archer were rested for Sri Lanka so were always going to start the Indian series. Wood was always missing out; there's no way all 3 of Stokes, Archer and Wood should play in the same game especially when 2 spinners are required.

Stokes will be playing over Woakes in India.
Archer, Broad, Bess, Leach, Stokes will be the attack

I think woakes will be lucky to get a game the whole winter, anyone agree?
So does anyone think Broad and Anderson will play together in India or will it be at best they rotate tests between them.

Sounds Like 2 tests each, rotating mate

Plans do change though

Look at how well broad bowled last test, bowling cutters and tight

That sometimes works better than raw pace is the sub continent

I’d only play Woakes away from home if he is playing as an all rounder and he’s behind Stokes and Curran for that role so I can’t see him playing

Can only see Woakes playing if injuries or illness rule out players or if the tour goes pear shaped and it's a completely different team by the end of the tour. I have seen that happen on a few England tours over the years.
