Has this season been written off?

There is huge mood swings on these boards. After the Wimbledon fixture the tone was optimistic and the overriding majority of posts were upbeat on promotion.

they weren't like. there is a thread on promotion that probably 90% of people predict that at best we might scrape playoffs. nothing really has changed, other than a defeat to a team that hasnt won away all season, while everyone else around us won, which now makes even scraping the playoffs a slightly bit less likely. if we win on saturday no douby we'll start looking upwards again to see what it will take to catch those in the playoff positions.

Every team in this league are currently tripe. Two or three good signings would see us promoted.

Start again next season and we could be up against a couple of decent relegated teams, promotion may not be as easy as this season for a few years.
Then again the current regime has made the wrong decisions at every single step.

The Ipswich away game is key. Sunderland have been very good in the games against the teams at the top of the table. Indeed I can’t think of a loss against promotion rivals which is crucial.

The 4-0 win against Lincoln shows that on their day they are about the best team in the league. It is just about getting more consistency and in fairness Johnson identifies that and with his coaching pedigree it is just a matter of time on the training ground before he gets it right.

This group of players most of whom we are stuck with and will be picked by the current manager just like the previous manager will not get us promoted. Adding Mcgeady and diamond is an improvement but no where near enough

If we don’t get out this league this season we’re here for a long stint!

I can’t even imagine the standard of player we’ll get in at the start of next season to replace the current bunch of knackers.

We need a good mix of older players, who still have something to prove, and youth who again want to prove they’ve got what it takes.

The current squad lack any hunger (apart from some of the younger lads), I can’t believe are not busting their balls to get a new contract, they will not get a bigger club than Sunderland and most will be lucky to get a game in the Northern League.

Everything has been neglected over the last few years, what a state this club is in!

Under new ownership, not resigning the vast majority of the out of contract players and still in this division next season I think we will stroll it next year LJ or no LJ.

Has by me. Until we start going on runs of beating lower half teams. We always blow it when we get a decent run of games against these teams, always.

We’ve been waiting for a plan for 70yrs. If ones in the offing then you’re right.

As will everyone else. So being able to afford and implement a better scouting system, employ better coaches, data analysts, physios etc should give us an edge. Then top it off with an up n coming head coach the worlds our lobster. It’s a good plan, not perfect but it’s a good plan.

Which is the exact issue. We'll have no advantage over the rest of the league.
Players won't give a toss about a massive stadium if they can get the same wage maybe closer to home and for a side who finished above us the previous season, for example.
We are going to have to rely on scouting and recruitment being right on the money when bringing in up to 20 players.

I would have thought the players were playing to prove their worth and earn new deals but they look crap. Likes of Maguire comes on and basically doesn’t touch the ball.

Only without a wage cap
We'll not be promoted, we are worse than we were two seasons ago and that was bad !!

SD plan season 1 = Buy fringe Championship players
SD plan season 2 = Buy average League One players
SD plan season 3 = Buy average League Two players

Best he's gone by the summer, as god knows his plan for next season!

He’ll still be around next season man still touting the club for more money based on its historical past and support base ! The man is like a barnacle that can’t be shifted
