Needs to go through a fused spur I believe, we replaced our gas oven/ electric grill last year and while there was a regular socket underneath where the old one was plugged in, the installer said I needed a fused spur fitted as per regs.

Mycroft Ohms would tell you that UK voltage is specified as 230V, not 240V.

The EU harmonised the voltages across Europe by specifying a harmonious 230V then increasing the allowed tolerances until everyone was covered so it meant no actual changes being made!
The allowed tolerance is +10%/-6% so 240V is still in spec.

I refer you to Fcomp's answer above proving it's only 230v for calcs because those pesky Europeans took 10v off us, every month.
