Mycroft Ohms would tell you that UK voltage is specified as 230V, not 240V.

The EU harmonised the voltages across Europe by specifying a harmonious 230V then increasing the allowed tolerances until everyone was covered so it meant no actual changes being made!
The allowed tolerance is +10%/-6% so 240V is still in spec.

Don’t think I’ve ever took a reading of 240.
 
Can you still use three matches to hold the wires in the socket or have the Euro softies insisted we use a plug?
