New Music Releases Thread

I’ve been listening to my personalised radio station on Apple Music yesterday and today and it looks like there are some 2020 releases that passed me by and a 2021 release to look forward to:
  • Van Darien (country/alt-country/Americana, on the poppier end of my tastes across those genres)
  • Ghost Funk Orchestra (call themselves psychedelic soul, definitely a bit of a Gizzard feel to them)
  • Old 97s (alt country - I feel I should already be aware of them but clearly I’m not)
  • Painted Shield (alt-rock/indie-rock supergroup featuring Stone Goddard from Pearl Jam)
  • Tv Priest (indie-rock, post-punk type thing - out next month but there are a few pre-order tracks and singles kicking around)

Yeah, Old 97s have been around quite a long while. I have an album from 2008 (Blame It On Gravity) and I know that wasn't an early one at the time by any stretch - my then missus had played them for me in the late 90s, so they must have a heavy catalogue for you to explore. I think Arkle was discussing them on here a month or two ago.

I've mentioned Old 97s. They've released 12 albums over about 18 years. Pretty good in a not quite Drive By Truckers way.

Plenty for me to be getting on with before Friday’s new releases then

Just reading a little about them. Been going best part of 30 years. Had no idea the singer is Rhett Miller - big career in his own right  Even though they're originally a Texas band, it looks like they have links to Chicago, which would explain the ex knowing them, as she lived there in the 90s when we were first involved. I'd lumped them in with Bodeans in my head, who she also liked and got me listening to, but I think they were more roots rock, country-tinged alternative rock, than Old 97s who definitely sound like they're more alt-country.

Aye, I got my maths wrong. It's 12 albums in 28 years.

New Mogwai track released - Ritchie Sacramento, which has an interesting story

Just came on to post this! Listening to it at the moment. Very much looking forward to the album.

Yeah I listened to it earlier, someone posted it on a Facebook group I’m in. It’s just an updated version of Linoleum though so it’s not given me much of a feel for what the album will be like.
