Winter 2020 cricket Aus, NZ, SA

NZ are class at home, they are the darlings of the cricket media in this country though, they were so bad in Australia its untrue, yet it barely got a mentioned. I think we'd hammer them in England over 5 tests personally.

Wagner is such a weapon for them on those pitches, batsman dont like facing short bowling, at any level, and the difference with Wagner to others is he can pretty much do it all day long.

You can't help but like them
Their bowling attack would be far more of a handful here than they are in Australia mind. I’d agree we’d beat them because their batting isn’t particularly strong, but batter them is probably taking it a bit far.

I think that’s harsh on their batting

averages and test hundreds

Latham - 42.34/11
Williamson - 52.90/23
Taylor - 46.04/19 (albeit getting on a bit)
Nicholls - 41.56/6
Watling - 38.48/8

Even Blundell as their second opener has started well, averaging over 40 with 2 tons and 2 fifties in his first 9 tests

Yeah true, but as I say, if you play half your cricket on those pitches, you average will be higher

Its totally unfair to look at those averages and say they are better than English batdman who play on the hardest batting wickets in the world

not suggesting you are, but it just shows you how stats can be misrepresented.

Well maybe the wrong word, I think we'd win comfortably over 5 tests, I mean Australia haven't won over here for 20 years, and we beat India easily

I agree they have a class bowling lineup and a good batting lineup too

good team
5 India players in isolation after eating at a Melbourne restaurant

I am a bit confused by this but Melbourne is fully open with no restrictions, so what is the problem?

Bit inhumane if anyone in the state is allowed to eat at a restaurant except the Indian cricket team?

Well yeah, but Boult and Southee both have cracking records, averages not far off Anderson and Broad. So if the pitches are that good then they’re exceptional and would destroy it in England

They are great bowlers, everyone agrees with that, but you seriously suggesting the pitches aren't good in NZ? I take if you haven't been watching much cricket over there recently.

I don't think yoiu'll find many who know about cricket who say the pitches aren't good.

No. They are good pitches. You can also read this thread to see I have been watching the tests

I’m saying that you can’t make an argument on averages for both the batsmen and the bowlers. If the pitches favour batting then the record of the bowlers must be top class. Boult better than Anderson and Broad?

Im being slightly flippant of course

Yeah I think Boult and Southee are 2 of the best of a generation absolutely

I also think we'd have batsman who would average well over 40 if they played all their cricket over there

You’re probably right

I was just trying to defend England's batsman, not have ago at NZ, sorry if it didn't come across like that.

Few England lads get criticised for their averages, when people dont take into consideration what they play on. The fact Root averages close to 50 I find remarkable, considering the pitches of the last few years, albeit they were better in the Ashes.

Not a problem, you make a good point

I think inhumane is a stretch, they are allowed to eat outdoors at a restaurant but not indoors. I think the cricketers (even big bash teams) are under greater restrictions than the general public as they don't want anything to put the games at risk but also they are moving state to state so the govt want to minimise risk of spreads outside a localised area. They are absolutely zero tolerance over there.
Lewis Gregory about to win the game for Brisbane here
Nice little cameo from him to seal it, he's started well, big impact in 2 of the 3 games he's played.

yeah fair enough, still seems a bit harsh like, got a lot of friends over there and they doing all sorts, just seems harsh to me
