You've not met magicrat, his hairline suggests he's in his late 50s...Your never too old...
Sounds like graft that marra.Try rucking to build back up to running its a brilliant way to boost endurance.. A back pack with about 8 kilo of sand in it and walk at a good pace.. I use this after a lay off before running again...

Looking forward to my first event ever! I started running in Feb 2020 with the ambition of doing a ParkRun. Still waitingLooking forward to doing events again once the vaccine has kicked in...got a few deferred events from 2020 still to do...
Posted it on the 2020 thread but it's to run 10k. I currently run 7 and it takes me exactly 1 hour. I know that's nowt to all you lot but for me it will be massive.
This is the plan I'm following (the distance version not the timed version). I'll probably repeat a few weeks though so if I've got there by the end of March, I'll be happy.

By the way, doing a park run seemed utterly unobtainable at the beginning, like some kind of magic thing I'd never be able to do. And now I just bosh out 5ks no bother Love this running

Age is just a number. Plenty time to do an ultra. My place for Edinburgh marathon from last year was deferred to this year, so if that goes ahead that’s my main goal. 4.28 last time, to bear that would be great.
I had set sights on doing an ultra last year which never happened, thinking this is slipping away from me at 42.
A lot of people who do Ultras are in their 40,50,60's etc.Age is just a number. Plenty time to do an ultra.
I'm 59... Still do the odd ultra ... Was gonna do 50 mile one in littlehampton in feb but covid has stopped it.... If your fit enough your young enough...I've entered the Trail Outlaw Half Marathon Series this morning
