So the new owners wanted Lee Johnson

League One is now being set up as little more than a feeder division. We simply have to get out of here this year. Look at Peterborough and Charlton and you can see we will never get a better chance. Read the Bristol City fans views and they think a club our size should walk this league. Our current owners are making an utter hash of it.

To get promotion you need someone who can handle the pressure when its tough - Peter Reid, Mick McCarthy, Roy Keane - like the Coventry home match when Jack Ross was found wanting. I totally understand the need for a 'coach' with this new set up but surely out there there is someone who can coach and has had a little bit of success. Of all those linked Johnson is the only one without success on his cv. He basically needs to massively improve on what he has done on the past. I presume the owners have set a target of promotion this year. Why do they think of all those considered that Johnson was best qualified to deliver this. Why not take you time and find a coach you can be confident will also deliver immediate success?

The strength of Johnson seems to be his development of players (who Bristol then sold on - is that the goal to be a feeder club like Crewe were) and I really liked what the new Sporting Director had to say. Unfortunately Stewart Donald has just sold off 8 or 9 of our best young prospects - a whole generation (we must have got about £2M from those sales - where did that money go? To pay off Will Grigg's transfer fee). So its brilliant that we are finally addressing this but it will take 3 or 4 years to bring results due to the recent plundering of our talent.

So, I really expect us to 12 months down the road with another failure on our hands. That said, I have been wrong before but I see virtually nothing to be confident about with this appointment. Let's hope I'm wrong because only promotion is acceptable.
Bristol City fans havent seen us play and cant possibly understand how poor the squad is.

Another crappy hopeless zero ambition appointment. He will be on the deadmans walk by end of season. These fookin owners..

Disagree completely it seems exactly the sort of thing he’d do. He wants to bring in a sporting director with a background in academies so he can continue selling youth prospects, it seems to have been one of his major interests since he realised he could.

A manager who is cheap, unemployed with no real success to date. Someone who knows they’ll never get a chance at a club of our size ever again so will very likely be the perfect yes man. Both fit exactly what I’d expect from Donald

The alternative is Donald is letting new owners who haven’t taken over call the shots and despite having plenty connections across European football, this is the best they can do? I know which version I think is more likely
Disagree and speculate as much as you like I know for a fact that Donald refused to provide Jack with the support staff needed to run a football club. Unless he’s suddenly changed his stance then this is a decision taken without his input.

It's not really the owners job to pick a manager is it? Rodwell and the new geezer from Birmingham I imagine are the ones who've picked him surely?
Yeah that's what I'm thinking. The "ownership group" puts a structure in place for the club to run itself rather than being so hands on to pick a manager or head coach or whatever themselves.

You think it’s speculation that the owner of a football club wouldn’t have any input on who is appointed manager? You’re suggesting something on the face of it is far less likely

It's so far from what Donald would do its glaring. He hasn't made these decisions to appoint a SD and then Johnson as Head coach

Our squad is a mcgeady and 2 or 3 attacking players away fron walking this league.

The defensive solidity and midfield is there but the attacking threat isnt. Sort that in jan and we'll go up imo

This f***ing board man. Jesus. We are a club in the 3rd division who have had shit loads of managers in recent years. We can’t attract top quality managers/players. How hard is that to understand??
Safc is a graveyard for managers and players. We are not attractive at all. Yes we have amazing facilities, a massive fan base but that doesn’t give us the right to attract the quality some of our fans demand.

I’ll get behind the new manager, won’t spit my dummy out after a few games if it’s not going to plan.
A lot of posts are starting to sound so arrogant.

We can get 46k fans at home and we are in our 3rd year in the 3rd division. That we have higher ambitions than the amateurs in charge is not arrogance. It is beyond dispute that the appointment of Johnson looks less likely to deliver promotion than most of the others linked. We are rightly sick of the failure of these owners. I have bought 2 or 3 season tickets for each season down here - thats thousands of pounds I have put in their pockets.

We have a right to say to the owners that to date you have been utter failures and we have very little confidence in your abilities or decision making.

Let's wait and see what new owners do. So far we have a young dynamic management team, which ain't bad considering where we are.
I was worried about bringing in yet another merry go round manager, Pearson and the likes.
Happier today than a few weeks ago.

I’m not disputing any of that. Yes as fans we want amd deserve better, the reality of the clubs situation shows it’s going to be a struggle. We can’t attract the people the fans want and that’s not just down to the owners.
