It's wikiprdia, not their website marra.
Ah right. I didn't look too closely and just saw the name of the school. When we were looking at schools for my daughter we visited some public schools and it was quite amusing to see the alumni listed such as Ian McKellen, Monica Ali and Ralf Little so I guessed that list was something similar.

Exactly. A bit like saying he didn't like a drink.
Five green bottles sitting on the floor
I wish to Christ, I wish to Christ
That I had fifteen more
And it's lend me ten pounds, I'll buy you a drink
And mother wake me early in the morning
When the world is too dark
And I need the light inside of me
I'll walk into a bar
And drink fifteen pints of beer

Hypocrite or is it just me struggling to understand the complexities of the Irish political landscape of the 70s/80s?
Seemed happy enough to make his name & fortune in the UK but looks like it was through gritted (rotten) teeth?

"MacGowan’s enthusiastic endorsement of Irish uprisings against the British and adoration of the IRA – “I felt ashamed I didn’t have the guts to join [them],” he says at one point."

Even with all his human flaws, he’s a f***ing legend!

He is. Wonder if he would have played a gig at Warrington Town Hall though?
No, but the political climate of the 70's and 80's was very different and that is when he formed his opinions. I take his stance as more anti establishment than anything else. He's never changed. It defies logic that he's still alive.

It's also when the IRA were bombing the mainland.

Sometimes you need to look past the failings of drink & drug use, political opinions & all the other stuff to just stand back & admire how f***ing brilliant his sings are. Stuff like Lullaby of London, Pair of Brown Eyes, Broad Majestic Shannon & Body Of American man. Unbelievable.

This morning on the harbour
When I said goodbye to you
I remember how I swore
That I'd come back to you one day
And as the sunset came to meet the evening on the hill
I told you I'd always love you
I always did and I always will
Posted this before, but I saw him live a few years and he was worse than shite. Pissed idiot
Pissed !!! What exactly did you expect from shane McGowan

All these musical “legends”, I feel a bit uneasy about things they’ve done. Particularly heroin, but John Lennon was a massive wife beating, adulterous, shit dad, smack head who wrote great songs. Johnny Rotten is like a caricature who’s a great frontman. Ian Brown’s went off his tits on the whole anti COVID thing, but was part of an era defining band. They’re all tossers really. But with Shane MacGowan I can’t look past the songs. They’re too good.
f***ing hell man...people moaning cos a rock star was 'adulterous' and a shit dad
Mebbe stick to the singing nun then?

Why is he a hypocrite?

Great songwriting but for me the best live versions were on the Joe Strummer (another public school type) tour. From memory that was a Christmastime gig, at the City Hall.
