Sporting Director.

It's good that a DOF will take the football decisions away from the amateurs, but what chance the amateurs will pick the right DOF ?

First - it's not a DoF, it's a Sporting Director, a bigger and more senior role. Secondly, L'Équipe reported that JS and K L-D had got a four man shortlist (using headhunters) two weeks ago.

You tailed off but i'm really glad you clarified this point. Its being missed frequently.

The role will be whatever the people hiring decide it to be. The job title is semantics. What one club call a director of football won’t necessarily be the same as how another club use the role.

I listened to the podcast (excellent as usual), and it was @MackeminGlasgow who suggested that he'd heard about Schwarz being in the frame (without mentioning his name). White expanded on the speculation but it didn't seem that he was speaking as anything other than a fan, no inside knowledge at all.

Correct. Tom has no prior knowledge and me neither aside from one person suggesting he has been contacted to me.

Explains in here quite well what a Sporting Director does, with examples. And here more of a JD....

In short... its a very smart move and this appointment is far more important than the manager
Another here...

The Sporting Director appointment is absolutely crucial. I'd rather we have a relatively unknown coach with an excellent sporting director, than a strong manager who tries to adapt to working with a Sporting Director.

The sequence of appointments is important, top down approach would work best as the senior role would be involved in the recruitment of all of the subordinate roles and everyone hired would be buying into the structure from the off.

Just been reading this. Any ideas as to what Schwartz has been up to, to be mentioned for the role?

Sadly seams to have been more TV and Turism focus then actual ball... but then that might be our level now. I am sure he would have high demands and enforce them though... which might be what we need!

So no experience other than he played for us?

That role needs to go to someone with at least a bit of experience, someone who's built up contacts in the game. A poster mentioned his name a while back, but if they are looking for someone with Sunderland link, Reyna would fit the bill and seems to like a challenge.
