I was exactly the same. Watched it a few months ago after watching the UK version again (and Extras). Sat for the first episode with my arms folded in grumpy old man fashion but was quickly won over with the characters. There are obviously some similarities with characters and story lines here and there but there is more than enough of it different to be able to be stand out on its own merits.

The original is sublime, difficult for me to watch as the schadenfreude is so agonising.

I find the American version not as brilliant but so much easier to watch and there is so much of it.
 
I'd never seen much of the UK one or any of the US one so I binge watched each to compare.

The UK one is really good and does the awkward mockumentary style great. The US one starts not very well but then there's a shift in the writing, as if they were contractually obliged to follow the UK version. After the the first and second season they really settle into their role and it becomes its own show.

I reckon the US version is a lot better. Steve Carell plays the boss really well. And it's got way better looking women.

US office better than UK imo first season is poor as tries to copy the UK but then goes off on its own.

sums it up for me, us office take a while to warm up, but worth sticking with so far ( only up to series 6 )
 
Main reason people like the US version more is because they get attached to the characters, always gonna find it better when that happens.

Best thing about the American version is that it spawned Parks and Rec, a better show than The Office.
 
Only watched the yank one for the first time a couple of years back and thought it was better than the UK version.

They are actually good mates same as Jonathan Ross.

I may have to watch it over again. Hes a good actor as well as being funny.

They’re both very good, I actually think The Office has more funny material - we stopped watching that around season 6/7 whereas we’ve never made it past 4/5 of Parks & Rec, some of the storylines become a bit silly.
