Sporting Director.

Only senior players wages count. He could be paid as much as we'd like, but he'd have to work with the players you can get for that wage budget, at least until promotion.

would require a lot of things to fall into place but if someone is gearing up to come in soon with cash to spend it might be a good idea to identify the best under 21 strikers in Britain and work through that list offering a decent fee until we can get one of them in.

the rest of the team is probably good enough to go up but we need goals.

You didn’t list any worthwhile reason

Seems to be because he played here 20 years ago

Let’s just pick the best qualified person for the job, with experience in this type of role, which is not him
...so because he has no experience in the role means point blank rule everyone out with no experience. Ridiculous imo. My reasons are perfectly worthwile thank you.

Tbh we have tried the DOF role before with someone who hadnt held that position before

Roberto De-Fanti....remember him......Although the wally hasnt done it before so it could go 1 of 2 ways really

L'Equipe saying it's down to 4 candidates to get the role as sporting director at the club. New people have been interviewing and the new sporting director will be English or Scandanavian. My guess is Steve Mclaren will rock up here.
Mclaren, I hope not.

And what is the role?

The Sporting Director role can vary massively from club to club and league to league.

What does the SD role at SAFC look like?

Wasn’t a true DoF in my opinion. Was a vehicle for an ex agent to get his former agency’s players into the PL while we were supposed to benefit from increased access to higher level players at a lower price.

This did not work.

Although Wolves seem to be reaping the rewards of a similar arrangement.

As I’ve stated the Sporting Directer/DoF role can be very different from club to club.

When reading your post I automatically thought of Wolves before you mentioned them....good point

If you are picking someone experienced in the role, you would limit your options to a very small pool.
Any potential new owners will need to make an immediate impact and if we go down this route, the appointment of a DOF is the benchmark. Push the boat put and get the biggest footballing character out there. Look at Newcastle, one foot in the 3rd Division, along came Keegan and were one minute away from relegation, thanks a bunch Steve Walsh. From 20th to 1st in a season.
Anyhow, KK was inexperienced but a big name in football and he transformed the jammy black and white bastards. No guarantees of course, but the same would apply to an experienced DOF. This appointment, if in the pipeline needs to be right

Just speculating after having a look on Kyril’s Instagram two of his recent follows are Sunderland and Lorik Cana who was captain of Marseille when his father was owner. Wonder if he could be involved in some capacity. Seem to remember him being a very intelligent bloke.

Luscious Locks Lorik was at Marseille for 4 years so young Kyril probably had he’s poster on his mansion wall!
