Dual Monitor Set-up - Starting from scratch

What’s the basis of this? I’ve got a top of the range Dell XPS (Second one actually) from work and my cheap Lenovo Thinkpad kicks it’s arse in every way other than the screen quality.
I have had a Lenovo laptop for work and it’s 3 years old, just past it’s warranty and the battery is total shite.

Maybe the latest variants are ok.

Not directly related to this but I've just taken delivery of a £15 HDMI/USB KVM switch off Ali and it's the business. Work laptop on one input; personal desktop on the other. It only supports the one HDMI but that does mean I always have my desktop running on the secondary monitor. Got the Jabra, keyboard/mouse, printer (and webcam when it arrives) on a single shared USB hub. Excessive mouse & keyboard cables secured with Velcro ties superglued to the bottom of the keyboard. It's a work of art.

This is a very sleek set-up. Cables tied underneath the desk.

I'm currently converting my loft into a home office. I was in the back bedroom but that is being changed into a nursery now. So I am literally starting from scratch, and I know for a fact I'll have far less cables on show than that. I haven't fully worked it out yet. I may put some of these up behind the monitors alongside the mains then run cable down under the desk to where the PC is and have them come out of there, that way nothing is visible down the back of the stand.

How wide is your ultrawide? I’m looking at a 34” curved Lenovo for my office and looking for recommendations.
LG 29UM68-P 29" FHD 21:9 UltraWide IPS LED Monitor AMD Freesync 75hz

I tend to have 2 "windows" open, snapped to each side and when I'm typing here, I cannot see the footy manager window on the right.
Problem I found with 2 monitors was that I was in the middle, and both of them were off to the side (even though they were touching, right in the centre). Ultrawide isn't as wide as that, which helps. Curved might actually help even more.

Don't make my mistake and get 1080p though. Go bigger. Mine's oldish now so I can't really recommend anything

I dual screen off my laptop via the hdmi port or the vga port. No need for a desktop
The problem is with laptops that a two screen set up one of the screens is just a slave screen.

I've get an hp prodesk thing and 3 lenovo 29" screens. Two running off hdmi output and one daisy chained.

I think I have to uprate my pc and add another two screens as I'm running out of space.

Thankfully work pays

Works ok for me, I use the laptop screen for things like outlook and excel. The 21” monitor is fine for CAD. I don’t need anymore than that.

Just feels like a waste of a screen is all
Don’t know if I could hook a third up via vga tbh. I have 2 24” at work hooked up to a desktop. Might get them hoyed on the wall today. I’ve been threatening to have it done for a while now.

Yeah I'm going to wall mount mine I think. Takes up too much table space with the monitor bases. Cabling is a f***ing mess as I'm a messy twat

Our office in the house is a bit messy like that, doesn’t help that me and the missus have two different setups. She has a dock for her surface pro and related stuff and then I have my stuff.

Yeah Mrs has a single screen set up and mobile. I've got speakers, massive phone, webcam the lot. Hers is pristine

Not sure what you mean there.
Hell, I don't even have my laptop open, it sits on a vertical dock, closed. I used to have the 2 monitors connected to it, but now just the 1 ultrawide.

Even if I opened the laptop, and used that screen, I could still make the ultrawide the primary.

One of the monitors is just showing what you have on the laptop screen
