F1 2020

Apparently the 2021 provisional calendar has been leaked, based on what I've heard so far, the season starts in Bahrain, Australia moves back to October, Vietnam and Netherlands finally join the calendar, Brazil is dropped and replaced by a street race in Saudi Arabia with Portimão and Imola being considered to remain for another year.

If it's true, it's a shame to see Interlagos go, one of the classic old circuits. It's also a disgrace if the Saudi rumour is true. F1 should be nowhere near a place like that.

Whats the difference between there and Bahrain?

Or China, about 1/3 of the circuits are is questionable countries and about 50% of the sponsors are from either questionable countries or not exactly the most morally perfect history.

Saying that give me a good race and I'll be watching it, so I'm just as bad.

This is just F1 though, we stand together yet we will have races in countries which still have slaves and some of the worst human rights abusers in the modern world, we still stand together with your bank accounts.

Do you know if its on an actual track or the Riyadh street circuit that the Formula E use?

I assume it's the Formula E one as it's apparently a street circuit.

I'd happily see the races in China and Bahrain dumped for the same reason as it shouldn't be going to Saudi.

the one i saw was a street race in jeddah. but, its a precursor for the state-of-the-art Qiddiya track that alex wurz has been involved with...
Its all money - always has been.
how much must the saudi Aramco poured in this year? every track is plastered with their logo, the horrible blue\green combo pulls my eyes out...

If I was a circuit I’d be approaching that next contract negotiations a bit differently from now on...

I can’t see this carrying on indefinitely though. There’ll be a breaking point when they just go back to full crowds regardless, whether it’s a vaccine or just give up or whatever. And the circuits have got it pretty good tbf

Anyone who can afford to sponsor elite level events is likely to be someone you'd not want to be associated with.

There are exceptions, I'm sure. But tabs, alcohol, betting, oil all leap to mind as the big hitters

Anyone think Silverstone will be full capacity next year?

Not full. But there’ll be some attendance I’d imagine. Be very surprised if it was empty. 50% maybe, something like that. Probably still social distancing and masks required. Anyone’s guess at this stage though really
Rumours starting that Williams refused to release Russell for 2021 at Mercedes’ request. So guess they wanted him to replace Bottas for next season. Interesting read on Planet F1 if anyone’s interested.

Just read that piece, have I totally missed the rumours of Perez going to Williams and do Latifi bring in money? As that article suggests it would be Russel who is dropped if they do bring in Perez, thought it would have been Latifi who was under pressure.

Street circuits are usually sh*te.

If Liberty have dropped Interlagos to replace it with a huge pile of steaming oil and gas dollars they better get their spin doctors ready.

Like millions of others, I watch F1 for the classic circuits (Monaco aside as its cobblers)

It's that time of year again.

Journos desperate to increase click rate start to see stories anywhere. It's the same during the transfer footy window.

That said, if the story is true and Williams did refuse to release Russell and then drop him, that stinks

His father owns Sofina, a Canadian producer of "processed animal products" and now coincidentally major sponsor of Williams! Latifi led a fairly unglittering career in GP2 and F2 before finishing runner up in a championship he could have won last year. So his last year was ok, but spending more than five years in the second tier is never a good sign. He is nowhere near Russell's calibre.

I haven't read the rumours but basically if Williams make a sporting decision to oust Latifi it'll have to be followed up by an equally sporting and commercial decision on his replacement, and Perez certainly fits the bill. Carlos Slim was happy to throw money at RP to keep him for next year and has that cash burning a hole in his pocket.
