You can only play and hopefully beat what is put in front of you.
Are we really lucky to be in the quarter finals and playing Brentford?
It depends which way it's looked at, because even the bigger teams pout out a lot of youngsters/fringe players, whereas the lower league teams generally put out their strong line ups and treat each game as their cup final.

Quality may overcome lesser quality on paper but it doesn't always pan out on that pitch.
We're still in it because we had a go.

What gets me is the whining of many Newcastle fans on forums who are claiming Bruce got lucky.

Look at the state of this drivel from supposed Newcastle fans.

Hopefully they get to the final, unable to attend the new Wembley for the first time, lose, and miss out on the whole experience like it never even happened

People making out Brentford are some sort of world beaters :D , they couldn't even get promoted ahead of West Brom and Fulham 2 months ago and they are both nowhere near good enough in the premier.

They’ve played at the new Wembley. Whoever they’re drawn against they’ll get beat.

They're a decent Championship side, who know what they're doing on the pitch. They've got a good chance of getting to the Semis because we're a mess at the minute. Bruce's 'tactics' appear to be throwing 11 men on the pitch and hoping one of them produces some quality.

They always make the cups difficult for themselves, regardless of opposition. Last seasons FA Cup saw them needing to win replays vs Rochdale and Oxford. Ha’way the bees

Same as there last FA Cup run wasn't it. Sheff utd were the toughest team en route to the final....same as 74.

That year we beat Everton in the 3rd round.

The following year required us to beat 3 premier league teams on the road to Wembley.

In reality however it's not really any different to how you performed under Benitez.

Lucky bastads
Not really that lucky.
Brentford would've been hoping to draw us or Stoke.
They get the ball down, move it quickly and are fast on the break with great movement up front.
We won't be able to deal with that.
Brentford in the semi finals
