I thought they might have looked to bring him back this winter.

So I'm surprised. Feel slightly for him as he should have never been moved from 7.

But end of the day international sport and where's he became invaluable in the white ball, his form did go completely in the red.

playing devil's advocate only 5 players got test & white ball contracts and the two bowlers (archer & woakes) are both far more durable than woody

Wood is a good test bowler as archer

Wood just wasn’t picked this summer, not much he could do like

I really think they view him as an easy target who won’t kick up a fuss

It just baffles me that Rory Burns can earn more than mark wood

Mark wood is so much more valuable to English cricket

It’s pretty shameful the way he has been treated looking back

He will be in every squad and every bubble but t will be earning a fraction of the others

I’m a bit baffled at Wood’s treatment.
Fair enough he’s had fitness issues, but did well in the West Indies and well in South Africa supplying searing pace.
For all Woakes has done well surely he should be picked ahead of him in the red ball format?
All being well surely they would be looking to take Woods to the next ashes down under?
I know there’s plenty of cricket before then but I would have thought they would have been looking to keep him right, to me he’s a valuable asset.

didn't say archer or woakes were better, just their fitness record is far superior.

burns is the england opener going forward. wood is a bowler in the rotation not a first XI every game player.

until he proves he can be relied upon to play the games needed rather than picking up niggly injuries often he'll continue to be treated like this. it's not about his cricket it' about his fitness.

honestly, look at it without your durham hat on and it's quite understandable. it's not woodys fault - if he'd been able to play more often than not over the last few years he'd be light years ahead of curran and the like. it's not disimilar to onions, back luck with injuries letting others sneak in ahead of him

no idea what the calendar will look like but i bet you whilst england don't pay him they still tell him to skip games for us to keep him right for them. FTECB
