The Pro Saudi MPs won’t like that, we haven’t heard a peep out of them about Covid or Brexit recently but they will be asking for Lineker to be put in the Tower for upsetting the Geordie Nation and affecting their mental health. Ant and Dec might even get involved in this outrageous slur.

This virus has killed people old and young, healthy and unhealthy. It would be an easier situation to manage if carriers always displayed symptoms. You may contract it tomorrow and feel nothing. You then may pass it on to your diabetic aunt and kill her. No amount of her eating veggies and sunbathing is going to stop that eventuality.

What we need to do, and should have done, is implement strict testing and a strict lock down to stop the spread. You have to look at it like a matchday when the stadium empties. We've allowed COVID to slip into a crowd and now its movements are harder to track.

The situation is intractable. How strict would you like the lockdown to have been or to be? Do you assume it has no consequences?

Every death is a tragedy, but it is part of life, and we all accept that. 12,000 of us die every week on average in the UK. Less than one per cent of us are dying of Covid. Even in France where the known cases are now far higher than they were in the earlier stages, the death rate has hardly moved.

Sooner or later we are going to have to live with the virus and it's consequences, as we have had to live with other threats down the ages, or more harm than good will be done in the medium and long term.

There's been worse players than him but it's the cost and context around it which just adds to the overall package of making it the worst signing ever.
Almiron at £20m in today's market isn't so bad. It's almost the going rate for an average player these days.
