Isn't that the case for loads of qualifying English teams? How many times did Arsenal qualify for the Champions League by winning something?

Man City won a treble in 18/19 so of the seven English teams competing in Europe in 19/20 only one of those had won something to qualify.
Chelsea finished third, but won the Europa league, so their qualification for the champions league was assured before winning the Europa league.

Yes, yes it is. It still fact that you didn't win anything though. Qualified as the best losers if you want to put it another way.

I think you're missing the point, you didn't have to win anything to qualify for those competitions.
Unlike Sunderland who won the F.A.Cup to qualify.
I must be missed my the point? We won the fairs cup in 69 to qualify for the UEFA cup in 70?
sunderland could have played in intertoto but reidy turned it down
Never understood that decision. Far be it to play in a tournament that qualifies for the UEFA cup rather than play meaningless preseason friendliest, surely?

And you qualified for that 68/69 ‘invitational’ by finishing 10th. 10th ffs One team couldn’t even be arsed to turn up for the quarter final 🤣 I haven’t heard one other club brag about playing in that shit man. It meant nothing.

Agree, apparently harry redknapp told him not to enter as west ham were in previous year and were legless towards end of season, reid didnt want same thing to happen. He could have played some younger players though( non first team ) , thought was a bad decision at the time.

I’m not bragging about anything, just correcting you.

Plenty?

Quick google says Arsenal have qualified for the Champions League what, 19 times? Only qualified for it by winning something three times? Might be a little wrong, but majority of their CL campaigns have been because they've finished high up the league, rather than winning something.

Ah just Champions league thought we were talking about Europe in general.

We entered in 2001 and lost in one of the finals but went on to finish 4th.
Did west ham qualify for Europe that season via the intertoto?

Callum Wilson from Coventry has to decide on a move to his home town region, the bright lights of London or a relegation battle in the NE.
Be interesting to see what he decides

honestly not sure. looks like it though, doubt be league position .

Just been having a look into this as I never believe a word Redknapp says
They played 3 ties in the intertoto, then 2 in the uefa cup.
So 6 games in the intertoto is roughly the same as a pre-season. They lost the first intertoto game on 17th July which Redknapp blamed on "midsummer lethargy".

In 97/98 they finished 8th with 56 points.

98/99 (year they qualified for intertoto) they finished 5th with 57 points.

99/00 (season affected by intertoto) they finished 9th with 55 points.

Pretty consistent in terms of points accumulated over a few seasons.
At the back end of the 99/00 season they won 4 and lost 4 out of the last 8 games.
Losses were away to Man United (champions) Arsenal (2nd) and Sunderland (7th). They also lost at home to Middlesbrough. So maybe one surprise defeat in there.
The wins were against Newcastle and Wimbledon (both at home, both 2-1), away to Derby also 2-1, and a 5-0 home victory against Coventry.

26% of their wins for the season came in the final 8 games. 8 games remaining is 21% left of the season.
They got 21% of their points in those final 8 games.

1.44 points per game over the season. Over 8 games that's 11.6 points per game. So picking up 12 points in 8 games (1.5ppg) is slightly above their average.
If they'd performed at that level all season they'd have finished on 57 points.

In conclusion: Redknapp talking shite.

Think he’ll go to Villa, bit I’d much rather he signed for the mags.

Shite last season, injury prone and would cost a canny fee (30m rumoured).

It used to be one of the most dangerous part of Manchester. I got relatives from Manchester who say this.

The Arabs have definitely regenerated the area around the Etihad, but it never gets reported much.
Only the roads around it ! The houses and the areas outside the ground boundaries are still the pits !

The irony of them calling anyone corrupt after who they wanted to buy them. I hope she gets pulled to bits in Parliament

ill never forgive reid for knocking that back twice i think

he signed scores of players who he froze out like helmer, peeters, fredgaard, nunez, and had an ok gk backup and reserve kids we could have used in the early rounds, we may have then played in europe and given the fans some memories
