Bob Willis Trophy: Leicestershire v Durham

Striker
Starting Saturday.

Line drawn under today’s debacle, perhaps a trip away from Riverside will be good for everyone, especially the batsmen.

Let’s have your XI’s lads, this could be fun

For reference, current form:

Lees - 180 runs at 45 (8, 106, 66, 0)
Dickson - 30 runs at 7.50 (11, 14, 2, 3)
Steel - 21 runs at 5.50 (9, 11, 1, 0)
Bedingham - 115 runs at 28.75 (8, 77, 5, 25)
Harte - 83 runs at 27.67 (33*, 29, 18, 3)
Burnham - 41 runs at 10.25 (7, 2, 5, 27)
Eckersley - 19 runs at 4.75 (6, 0, 8, 5)
Raine - 56 runs at 18.67 (7, 0, 24*, 25)

With the massive caveat of course that realistically, it’s not worth taking too much notice of averages until lads have had 8-10 innings’.

Personally I feel that the batting should remain the same, if these lads have started the season, I don’t see much point making changes. It’s a bastardised season to begin with, but is it really fair to bomb someone off the back of two games?

There are a number of batsmen who’ll no doubt be desperate for a score, some are probably playing for their career truth be told, but I don’t see any point whatsoever of a knee jerk.

We’ve got what we’ve got and I just hope - as I said elsewhere - that the coaches/management don’t do anything daft with regards to getting rid of anyone because I just don’t think anyone can be written off going on performances in this thrown together competition.

Happy to debate that position with anyone, I’ve no doubt some will already be calling for the heads of various players but I’m not willing to write anyone off just yet.

All I hope is that the club are in as good a position financially that they can keep hold of the current crop and atleast allow them to prove their worth in 2021.

Looking at Leicestershire match which has just finished in defeat to Derbyshire I notice Critchley the Derbyshire spinner took 6 2nd innings wickets to win the match. Durham slow bowling options look a bit thin but does that mean a possible recall for Trevaskis who I think is still the senior slow bowler at the county.

The only slow bowler with any experience. I agree with Brandon, not the time for wholesale changes, not that there are any experienced alternatives. Trevaskis for Carse certainly. Take Carse's figures out of the equation and we'd have been evens on the 1st inns. Pretty dreadful selection given that Carse had been bowling only white ball cricket prior to selection. Eckersley needs to give his head a good shake on a number of issues.

Awaiting his visa, and he'll be waiting a long time if he's spelt his name as above.😊.
let's hope we're not paying his (Behardien's )salary.

You can say that again

I'd be dropping Burnham and Steel. Clark and Smith to be given a chance.

Based on the form of the last two games?

Carse is a work in progress though, he’s genuinely Fast and well worth nurturing (surely we all remember Harmy’s early years), and I’d hope that he plays atleast 3 of the 5 fixtures we’ve got.

I fully expect changes to the bowling unit though, as it appears the bowlers’ workloads are being managed - wouldn’t be surprised to see Coughlin and Potts return at Leicester.

I don’t watch Durham anywhere near as much as most on here, but I’m with you on 2 games not being anywhere near enough.

I’m staggered we have chosen to bat twice however. Staggered

Raine 56 runs at 28 (7,0,24*,25*) but agree that averages are meaningless after 2 games. Raine also now batting at 9 when he did well at 8 last season.

Yes as it's such a short season though the 2 mentioned just aren't kicking on are they as much as I had hoped and with Steel expected., I think it's only fair as many as possible are now given a chance. Numerous players could be asking for a chance.... S.Stell, Trevaskis, Clark, Jones, Poynter, J.Coughlin, S.Bell.... Is Campbell still at the club? Not for one second suggesting they're great players mind but ultimately it's a squad game and if the ones with the shirt aren't doing the business, others should be given a chance.

Not sure what is going on with Scott Steel ? He is playing for Durham City, and, with all due respect, they are in the 3rd tier of North East Cricket. Also, he was batting at 6 for them last Saturday.
Cannot believe that the coaches are happy with that.

Aye, it’s tough because like you say it’s such a short season.

I don’t want changes simply based around the opinion that I think you need to give players 4 games or so to really have a chance to either succeed or fail, perhaps 3 as an absolute minimum.

That’s why I hope the club can retain all the current playing staff. At present I wouldn’t bring in the likes of Scott Steel, Bell, Jones, etc - but I would give them the security of not being detrimentally affected contract wise if they don’t feature. Hopefully the club can give those assurances.

Looking forward to seeing steel in the t20s

If it was April or May I’d probably have felt the same, but I don’t think the pitch has really been a massive factor.

Bloody hell. Surely it’s a different gadgey :o
