In his 45 Tests we’ve won 25, drawn 3 and lost 17. Including a 4-1 series win against India in which he was our highest run scorer & an Ashes win. There were away series wins in SL (3-0) and SA (3-1) as well. So what’s gone before is nowhere near as bad as what’s being made out.

Bit biased mind. You didn’t include the ashes win where Buttler couldn’t score a run, an SA series win where Buttler scores less runs than 3 of our bowlers or the Pakistan win where Buttler dropped 5 catches in one game. You can’t include the highest scorer caveat without including the lowest scoring caveats too. And Buttler didn’t play in SL. There was also the series when we became the shittest side ever and lost to the WI reserve team at their place that he kept in, for some perspective, and the ashes loss at home and the ashes 4-0 away.

Bit biased? f***ing hell, don’t know where to start with yours.
He didn’t drop 5 catches.
He did play in SL.
He didn’t play in the Ashes away.
We drew the last Ashes, not lost.
He played in the 4-0 loss away in India, playing the last 3 Tests scoring 154 runs, ave.38.5
Not really that bad, just proves my point that the criticism on here is over the top.

I personally think and always have that we harsh on him, keepers normally batting 7 with the amount of 50s he has scored in ratio to tests is decent enough.

I also think he should never be judged on the time he was picked as a specialist batsman at 5 as he is never one of those, to pick him at 5 and Roy opening was a massive mistake against that terrific Aussie attack in the Ashes.

Buttler’s record in tests is not brilliant, but is decent, his last 3 scores been 66,38,75, all coming in when 4 down in very pressured situations and got us out of the shit each of those times, yet there is a clamour to drop him.

You would think the catch he dropped of Bess for their opening was a absolute dolly the way some go on, it was far from it.

Agreed.

His record as a batsman isn’t as awful as his critics would have you believe either to be fair.

He only scored 27 fewer runs for instance (250 ave. 41.6) as a batsman than Foakes (277) did in his much talked about man of the series in SL.

Decent doesn’t cut the mustard at test level. A 38 does not get you out of the shit at all. If he went on and made a good 70 not out, that would get us out of the shit. Not 38. So don’t exaggerate. Shit that he caused with his 5 drops in this game let’s not forget
