Typical brittle batting usually ends up with the bowlers trying to salvage an escape from the deep brown stuff they get themselves in
Why did we elect to bat on a green seaming top.
Everybody else who came here last year elected to put Durham in.
It seems an unwise decision to bat first
Well done Harte but it’s going to be a hard task tomorrow and early wickets without conceding many runs is probably key to having any real chance

It is but the opposition also struggle to score runs but they only have to bat at the Riverside once a season if they are unlucky our batsmen have to bat there for half there matches.

It’s always been a seamers wicket but why make it a really green top and bat first. When they first changed the coin toss the opp put us in every time and it was a big struggle

Said on this thread before a ball was bowled strange decision to bat first with no slow bowler in your side. Not sure what they do with the wickets at the Riverside but for a few years now they have played a lot of championship cricket on wickets that are situated on the river side of the square which where traditionally the practice and 2nd team wickets.
Yesterday weather conditions made it an even stranger decision to bat first as when on the rare occasions it's humid at the Riverside the red ball normally swings.
My problem is it just leads to boring cricket where you get a diet of medium pace bowlers all day.

The decision to bat first is a puzzler ... but in terms of the wicket, maybe that it as good as it gets for the current situation. I had read weeks ago that pitches may be a bit spicier because the groundwork could not be done because of the lockdown ... I don't now but perhaps.

True- only once last season did they play in the middle of the square and Durham made 544-9 dec v Leics in their first innings with Lees helping himself to 181.

The final game of last season against Glamorgan was due to have been played on a wicket close to the pavilion side of the square but....not for the first time the covers let in rain and Vic had to hastily prepare a wicket in the usual area.

I never bothered watching a ball being bowled yesterday but I live in CLS and was utterly baffled when I saw that Eckersley had elected to bat. Pity we werent allowed in as one of the locals could have told him that since the end of May it seems the sun only emerges at 5pm.:lol:
