The fact that it’s likely piracy that’s holding up this deal is f***ing insane. 6 of his closest aides have had their assets frozen over their direct involvement in the Khasoggi murder. It’s as clear as day Bin Salman is implicated but he can’t go on the list as he has diplomatic immunity.
Is this how fucked up football has become?

Looking at some of the posting in this thread I think about what the poster could have done instead of continuing the argument. Instead of spending time insulting each other posters could:

-actually talk about football (doesn't happen much on this thread)
- do something healthy (lift some weights, go walk the dog etc)
- do something productive/educational (learn a new skill, plan a romantic gesture etc)
- do something fun (hobbies, games etc)

Or perhaps this sums it up better than I did:

The body language that stood out was that of a team working together to get results, this was evident in our results against bigger sides. Your words imply there was a fractured team without team's body language was poor. I'd ask you to prove that it was bad under Benitez.

We finished 13th from previous, 10th.
It's like you arguing that we finished 18th and relegated on more points than we finished 17th and stayed up, then telling me that's us going forward.

Newcastle United can only win the points available to them, we cannot influence the success or failure of teams outside of our fixtures with them. It is undeniable that we accrued more points than we did in the previous season. That is progress. Getting more points and being relegated is not progress because you didn't get enough points to stay up. In both of Benitez' full seasons we finished with enough points to get us an average* position of 12/13th. It's just a quirk of the 2016/17 season that we finished 10th on 44pts. In the past 20 seasons you'd would have needed c49 points to get 10th. 44pts is the lowest tally for a team in 10th in the past 20 seasons. In the past 20 seasons 13th position has needed more than 45pts on only 5 occasions.

I wasn't unhappy with the finishes, even the 13th. What I was unhappy with was the way in which it all happened.
I expected better football from a superbly well paid manager that was taken to like some messiah by some fans and hyped to death by the media.

By 'Better football' you mean, more entertaining, right? That's fair enough, but i'd be more choosy with my words. The football played by Bruce's team is less organised, less cohesive, and is unsustainable. But I cannot deny I've enjoyed watching us mug off Chelsea and Everton totally against the balance of play. I would also say that some of the football this season has been both bad and boring. I'm not sure if you were watching the start of the season because that was f***ing turgid. The games against Norwich, Burnley, or Aston Villa weren't exactly entertaining either. But whatever floats your boat, I guess.


Take out his championship season and let's see how that works out for him.

Yes, he really did. Pragmatic defensive football delivered the Championship title and pragmatic defensive football was keeping us midtable in the Premier League.


I'm not too fond of Benitez, now but I was ok with him earlier on, until he started his shenanigans and cryptically blaming anyone and everyone for his mistakes and using the fans as his buffer to gain control and have it all his own way in a bluff against Ashley, to which Ashley called and off the mercenary went, to China, with the silly excuse of finding hi8s perfect project at the right time.

You sound more and more like you've taken a dislike to Benitez and cannot therefore give him credit for the good stuff he did. You downplay his achievements, claim dressing room unrest, insist we were going backwards despite evidence to the contrary, paint a picture of Bruce's football that doesn't stand up to scrutiny.

The 4-0 win in a meaningless last game of the season away to Fulham flattered the stats also. Before that game, you had 38 goals from 37 games before that game so 1.027 pg (or 1.03 if you round it up) so basically the same as it is now and no better than Bruce.

I see @Tiote hasn't been seen after he posted about Bruce having the same points as Benitez at this stage of the season which was complete shite :lol: So to sum up, you've scored around the same goals but more points throughout the season on a game by game comparison and are 7 points better off at this stage with 6 games left.

Bruce is doing a smiggen better than Benitez (not to really concern a Mackem into thinking they're going somewhere) and it's crushing some Mags into defending Benitez. I'm showing a full season broken down to points per game, you're omitting games from that full season to show a PpG that's more favourable to your position.
