Unexpected chip shop stories

The most unfriendliest chippy I’ve been to was in Glasgow. A right miserable twat behind the counter- “what de yay want!” Proper scowling at the punters she was. She wasn’t amused at the request for a fish lot either.

The number of times over the years I have been told that Mr Lee is dead or gone back to Hong Kong to die must be in double figures.
Character Mr Lee.
When he was at Fencehouses in the late 70's (before he bought Brannigans at the North side) he would stay open for the bands finishing in the clubs. I roadied for a band then, and would phone up Mr Lee and ask him to stay open for us.
He never told us no.
I remember the night when their lass was going to give birth. The ambulance was outside when we got there, she was getting carted out into it. Mr Lee was still serving us all!!
Plenty on lads!!!

My mate who was as hard as nails at 15 sparked out a bully in his 30’s in a local chip shop who ended up unconscious in the fake fishing nets and plastic fish crabs and lobsters in the front window 😂 made quite a display
I'm seen plenty of scraps in chippies

Went into a chippy in kyle of lochalsh and ordered fish n chips for me and a sausage for the dog. The bloke looked out of the window and could see the dog with his head out of the car window. When i paid i said he'd undercharged me. He said I've only charged you a child portion for your dogs sausage. 😃

Not fish shop but me and my mate had a proper brawl in that tiny Chinese next to the Borough in the town about 20 years ago. There was 2 kids who sounded like they were from Boro badly insulting the staff. Me and my mate were giving them dodgy looks and then one of them gave my mate some stick. We punched fuck out of the pair of them but some lass arrived and jumped on my mates back and clawed his face. Ouch.

The then wife tried to pull me away but I said he started it. A little drink may have been taken!

Always scraps in the ling sun and it’s not exactly made for fights. It’s tiny !!

I remember being outraged when Wong’s took over the Chippy in Farra and starting charging 80p for a bag of chips. We’d been paying 35p before that.
Also in Wong's, I remember a few lads coming in pissed, starting taking the piss with a bit of 1980s casual racism-asking for flied lice an all that sort of thing. Tony (I think his name was) came running through the door from the kitchen with a meat clever in his hand, shouting 'What you f***ing say" They sharp left like.

That reminds me of a time I was in Montys round the corner from Chambers in the early hours of one Sunday morning and the lad in front of me asked for ‘chip’ and repeated this about three or four times. When presented with a tray of chips said ‘I told you I only wanted a chip’ ate one and tossed twenty pence on the counter before walking out. Would view as a juvenile kernts trick now but as a drunken 20 year old it was hilarious.

I used to go there every Tuesday, play in the concrete boat and that out the back of their house. Olive and Dennis Kelly (he was a mechanic at Turvey's Garage, later became Marlowes).
I was only 2 when I moved so that’ll have been 74/75.
