Canny article this.

Saudi Arabia, he said, was facing “the hardest time it’s ever been through, certainly the most difficult period of Mohammed bin Salman’s tenure.”

But at current oil prices and government spending levels, Saudi Arabia would run out of money in three to five years, forcing it to take on additional debt, said Karen Young, a Gulf analyst at the American Enterprise Institute.

Others questioned why the Saudi sovereign wealth fund was financing a $370 million , an English Premier League soccer team, while the government cut spending at home.

It does make you wonder why they're getting involved in Newcastle.

I used to quite like Miguel Delaney but like so many others on twitter his point gets lost in his desperation to be relevant and engaging and almost obsessive, ironic considering the Saudi involvement at the Indy

Hes turned into a weird labour version of Jim White.

I'm with Benizz here. People have been saying it's on the verge of happening for weeks now and they've still got Ashley there. Don't know why everyone is suddenly worrying now.

If it was going to happen it would have already happened. There's obviously some pretty big reasons for the hold up. I don't think it'll go through.

Who knows. Everybody is just guessing. Man City takeover took around 7 weeks. That is the stage we are at now with the Newcastle one. Given the very odd way in which we are currently living, I suppose timescales might be all over the shop. My own feeling is that if it's not done in the next 10 days or so, then it won't happen at all.

Worth a read.

Good read, once you get past the tasteless comments from the window lickers. /
This bit imparticular...

"The sadness is that what football once liked to imagine as its engaged support is now better understood as a passive, powerless consumer base. It’s ironic that in many ways, this was a process that Ashley has spent 13 years trying to perfect."
