New Music Releases Thread

I can't stop listening to the Fontaines DC new song. It starts off like early Strokes and finishes like The Beach Boys. Best track I've heard all year so far

The Guardian's take on the albums of the year so far:

Couple of things on there I've not listened to so may as well give them a go.

Not sure this year's gonna have the best end of year lists compared to other years, it's a bit of a struggle to put together a list so far for me.

April playlist is sorted. 4hrs and 40 mins of good, bad, shit and very good songs. They're all tracks from albums so if you enjoy what you hear, get the album on.

I'll do May later in the month - this April one got too big!
Thankyou! Saves me trawling through everything now 😂

very poor list imo.

I think some of that reflects on a) The Guardian's limited number of albums reviewed b) the fact that they try to cover everything from fairly trad jazz to some fairly out there metal.

Making two posts for one, my somewhat brief summing up of the stuff I've listened to this week:

Ben Lukas Boysen: Rough Trade shops' album of May. Very lush, filmic electronica. Not someone I was massively familiar with (also records as Hecq). Impressive stuff!
The Soft Pink Truth: one half of experimental electronic shazbats Matmos (specifically, the Drew Daniel half). This is a lot more house based and a little more commercially viable than Matmos (they made an album from samples of surgical procedures) and generally good.
Mark Lanegan: excellent as usual from the big man. Could be a good starting point for those looking to listen to Lanegan.
I Break Horses: shoegazey Americana from Sweden. Sounds great TBH!
Blake Mills: probably best known as a producer and session guitarist, this is the first solo album of his I've listened to. It's excellent, reminds me a lot of Paul Simon.
Modern Studies: their third album. Male/female vocalled indie-folk types from Scotland. Very good songs well performed.
Little Simz: an EP, of course. It flies by (5 tracks in 13 mins). Impressive stuff.

Album of the week: not sure I could pick one. They're all very good!

i've revised my opinion of EoB from average, to good... goes well on the headphones when shopping in aldi, blocking out the world.

that band names rings a bell, just had a look back and i've got their 2011 album 'hearts' which i seem to remember i listened to a lot, back in the day... think i'll give this effort a spin.

Human Leather - Lazy Karaoke. My discovery of the week. It's the singer from Choir Boy's other band. I've seen it described as goth pop and I think that is the perfect description. It was released on VHS as well, because why wouldn't you? Really good.

Couple of new music tips here - Sinead O'Brien in particular (working with Speedy Wunderground's Dan Carey) is a good un. Patti Smith / Slits / Fall / spoken word / krautrock stuff.

When you say VHS, you do mean video cassette, not some new technology with the same abbreviation?

There's a good 4-5 more on Spotify if I'm not mistaken, and an EP later in the year.

listening now. Anybody searching on Spotify please don’t do what I did and spend first 5 minutes listening to the thrash metal band of the same name.
