What if Short wanted to return

The Sunday Times Rich List was published yesterday. This is what it said about number 136 on the list.

Short’s expensive tenure of Sunderland football club has cost him his billionaire status. The Missouri-born private equity tycoon owned the Black Cats until April last year. During his time he sank at least £200m into the League One team, who were relegated at the end of the 2017-18 season. On agreeing to walk away from Sunderland, Short undertook to wipe away the club’s debts of at least £116.7m, according to the latest accounts. Short, 58, began his business career with the US industrial giant General Electric and first came to prominence in Britain when he spent £23m buying Skibo Castle in Scotland.

Its that old joke - how do you want to be a multi millionaire football club owner - start as a billionaire.

Shorts mistake was allowing people like margaret byrne and martin bain to run the club. I think he had the best of intentions for us but when you surround yourself with the wrong people its not going to end well and it didnt.
that said i liked him and would take him back gladly assuming he had learned from previous mistakes.

If he was to employ someone with an intelligent strategy to run things then I would be over the moon.

Its this I cant stand reading and listening to, I cant believe people still saying this...'surrounding and putting his trust and money in the wrong people'! Well guess what its his job as the custodian and owner of the club to put the right people in the right places! It was his job to do due diligence and research that the people he employed could do their jobs properly - he didn't do that and here we are in League f***ing 1! He employed a man in charge of the clubs assets (Di Fanti) that had never done the job before....I have noted 100s of points over the last couple of years on different threads why Ellis Short is the worst owner of our football club but because he has a bit money in his pocket people would still welcome him back! FFS I give up

as an exercise in if, fair enough but in reality he is never getting involved with football again.

Mad suggestion IMO. Brought some great moments mind with the record v the mags, the league cup run etc. Think his interest went when Big Sam left.

Still gave Moyes money to spend, but the way we went down to league one and how run down the club looked was disgraceful mind. Martin Bain appointment etc.

I agree, i just said pretty much the same thing as you but i did it in 2 lines.

and he had a change of heart, if he promised to fully back the manager, liaised with fans and reduced season tickets, would you have him back? remember he is a fan.
Are you serious?

The guy who took us from the prem to falling like a rock through the leagues?
The guy who couldnt even be arsed to show up and appointed someone else to rip the heart out of the club to cut costs

Short was the worst owner we've EVER had. Its not even close.

You said you would gladly have him back mate, whats going through your mind to say that?
Provided he had learned from his mistakes, as i said in original post. The rest of it was basically what you said.
