you lot can look forward to playing burton albion and accrington stanley whenver the next football season starts, by that time nufc could well be one of the richest clubs in the world, looking to buy some of the best players in the world, and be serious league contenders,
To be fair if it wasn't for the uniqueness of the support and passion at NUFC I doubt a player like Keegan would ever have came and then he wouldn't be manager and we may well have been languishing in the lower leagues for the last 25 years.

could be languishing in the 3rd tier of english football with the likes of accrington stanley and burton albion, .......

I remember it well, prior to that i used to go with my dad and that was the season i started to go with my two mates, was a great day
It was the best of days. It was Newcastle’s JFK moment. Time stood still, everybody remembers.

I remember it better than football games Newcastle played in the last 20 years.

Pashun ticked off the Geordie cliche list!

It's right though isn't it if Keegan never step foot in Newcastle as player or manager then god knows how the last 30 years would have been. He changed the game and made the club what it is today

We might even be lining up in the checkatrade as well if it wasn't for king kev

Lockdown needs to end quickly. Just so the madness of this thread can end! I mean WTF!

PS has the takeover happened yet? 😂
Lockdown has meant no difference to the quantity of posts about Newcastle on here. And that not easily explained by the obvious response that its the only subject on which Newcastle fans engage. Will always be the subject that Sunderland fans themselves make more posts than any other.

I commented earlier. Passion is a unique part of the clubs identity. Irrespective of events it’s part of the Newcastle United brand and it still exists massively as an under-current away from the club owned by Ashley.

That passion will never go and maybe somebody will figure how to tap into the well in the way Keegan did and Robson and Benitez did too?

I like the bio of Pochettino. He comes from Rosario which as a provincial city with a strong regional identity away from the seat of government and has parallels with Newcastle. Perhaps he could find a spiritual home in North East England?

Maradona might be a better bet?

I think his testimonial sticks in my memory more, just for the atmosphere

I have no doubt, its why he has the moniker Messiah.

Few clubs can generate that level of iconography.

In fairness Niall Quinn, had a lesser profile as a global super star but had a lot of charisma and generated some joire de vivre. He is probably the closest they have to a club icon that transcends the mere playing of football.

But Keegan, man, he is a legend. Imagine if he came back to the club?

Maradona might be a better bet?
Perhaps the greatest footballer of all time but does not speak good English. Poch is more of an Anglophile but seems to have that spirit of the Barrio that we see in Argentinians and a working class city can identify with.

Yes, I was there on the benches. A helicopter was the only appropriate mode of transport. He had to leave via the sky.

The greatest war cry in English football “Keegan, Keegan”.

Thousands shouting those two syllables must have put fear of God into opponents.

If we are to talk of bandwagons it is wrong to reference 1993, you need to go back to 1982.

The bandwagon started for me in 1982, as a 5 year old, with the arrival of twice Ballon D’or winner, Kevin Keegan against QPR.

Folklore says he struck the ball but the Gallowgate end sucked it into the net. It was that day that Kevin Keegan showed me this is “more than a club”.

It showed the power of positivity and charisma that one great man can create. There was many years of non-glory that followed but the club never lost the magic that one man created 38 years ago.

I think the fact people want to pay £300 million for a broken club is entirely due to Keegan releasing the genie from the bottle in 1982.

I hope the messiah comes back as an ambassador. I owe it to my children, after years of Ashley imposed exile, to show them the club Keegan created.
Just show him any one of several big (ish) British football clubs. They’re all the same. There’s nothing special to show your children about Newcastle that can’t be seen in many clubs. You’re mental if you think otherwise. Saying that, the empty trophy room does set you apart.

we had Ginola , they had Adam Johnson
Johnson was at the mags as a kid.
[wikipedia]
At the age of 12, Johnson was taken in by 's youth academy, having previously attended 's Centre of Excellence between 1995 and 1997.

Ginola scored 6 in 58 for mags. His stats in England are average.

1995–199758(6)
1997–2000100(13)
2000–200232(3)
20025(0)

Ipswich, Coventry, Portsmouth, Wimbledon, Birmingham, Luton, Q.P.R.,Wigan and Oxford have all won trophies since 1955. Yet the giants of football NUFC haven't, strange that 😂

As if we take thousands to johnstones paint trophy games man  . That was the first and last time just to laugh at your small time lot having to play or kids
Weren't laughing on your way home. Some crying on their way to the metro. All that shit about going ironically but they actually wanted to beat us and saw it as their best chance in approx 10 games. Lat time we lost to your lot Moses was a bain.

Ginola. Few will realise how good he was. A bit like Gazza his media profile grew at Tottenham but Newcastle saw the best of them.

He was the only player I can remember who could turn a full back from a standing start with his back to goal.

That game against Middlesbrough I am sure the right back still has recurring nightmares. Maybe one of the greatest performances in wing play I ever saw.

Neil Cox it was.

The biggest roasting I’ve ever seen a player receive or will receive . His parents were there that night to watch him unfortunately aswel.
