I think this is a myth we say to ourselves to make supporting a shit club seem ok.

When I speak to Man City fans they absolutely love winning things, competing with their rivals and playing in Europe. Yeah there’s some who miss certain aspects of being shit but I reckon 99% of them are happier now then they were in the third division. You only have to go to the etihad to know how good they’ve got it.

They boo the champions league anthem and loads had already left Wembley before they were given the league cup against us

Does that mean it’s not as advanced as everyone is saying?

Martin Samuel said if it doesn’t go through Ashley will still pocket £17million. I think it’ll go through but not until this time next month.

The month of Ramadan is soon I believe and from what I've read business is very unlikely to happen during Eid. They also have a public holiday until the end of the month. So it will either be before the end of the month of June I'd imagine.

Mike Ashley has given Amanda Staveley’s consortium until the middle of May to complete a takeover and has granted them exclusivity #NUFC [Chronicle]

Does anyone else think there’s some odd goings on. Ashley loaning then money?
If they are as wealthy as they claim to be why don’t they just buy them outright?

People on here are paying far too much attention to what potentially isn't even a loan. It could be a way of restructuring Ashley's debt etc. There are lots of potential reasons as to why it exists.

That’s a very good post.A couple of months ago no football fan had a word to say on the Saudi regime.

.....But there’s actually good will come out of this.
Increased awareness of a brutal international figure using football to sportswash their reputation. That’s good anyone arguing otherwise is just being plain ignorant.
And it’s also highlighting how ugly football as an “industry” become, when Newcastle fans (and Man City, Sheffield fans etc) are welcoming these people because it means money. It just shows the ‘ecstasy of gold’ is more important anything else.

It’s possible I suppose, the finer details of these things are seldom made public, but it does seem very convoluted.

Dry your eyes man

The pif has £260billion
Is the Saudi involvement confirmed? Or is it just a tedious link because Staveley has brokered deals for them previously? I'm not sure why they would get involved in a consortium. Usually they're all in and make their own appointments as they want people who they trust to run the show. Not sure if this has been posted.

I assume my views are likely to be shared by nearly every Newcastle fan. Firstly, I doubt anybody is not appalled by the atrocities. Most however will take the stance of - What is the club and the fans of the club meant to do about it? Governments and Royal families look the other way whilst benefitting and shaking hands with the Saudi Royal family. If they can't act or refuse to, what exactly do you expect us to do? I haven't seen a single post condoning their actions.

Secondly , this takeover has the potential to change many lives for the better. Whether that's on a basic level - hope of being better on the football field (as a Sunderland fan I am sure you appreciate the importance of Football to the NE) or financially through improvements that are likely to happen as a result in the North East. It will likely create more jobs and business opportunities etc potentially by regenerating parts of the city.

Who knows , perhaps by branching out and expanding in to the Western world the Saudi's may be easier to be held accountable for crimes in the future and if that becomes possible, I hope that it happens.

My previous post remains a valid point though, people regularly ignore plenty of horrid things because their own interests out weigh it - like yourself voting Labour. As horrible as it is, it happens all the time.
I have also never understood the idea behind sportwashing - As if winning a few games would make people forget what is happening in the real world - that's a sad reflection of people and our society more than anything else.

It's a huge moral argument, and not one that I can honestly claim to know the answer to. And you're right, governments do look the other way - ours, the US, whoever - because they care more about money. You care more about football. And I get that, to some extent - but sportwashing is real. That's why they're here. PIF (not Staveley. She's just a front: a savvy business woman, joining dots to get rich quick) are buying NUFC for no other reason than to wash their image.

This is a deliberate attempt to deflect from absolutely appalling, daily atrocities.

Yemen, state-sponsored murder, the trashing of human-rights, gay rights (looking forward to some awkward looks on rainbow laces day), women's rights, I mean, it just goes on and on.

I just don't think you can be on here saying, oh, you lot didn't care, what about Sheff United, Chelsea, etc etc, when, for me, that's not the issue - that's just deflecting from saying, "I know it goes on. And I don't care. Top eight is more important" - which, I guess, is a bloody (no pun intended) hard statement to make. But your fight isn't with us, is it? It's with your own conscience.

And what does sit a little awkwardly in this, is you did have a conscience when it came to Fat Mike. You (the fan base) not only protested him, you protested his company, and had issues with his ways of working. Well, when you weren't winning, anyway. And the two aren't anywhere near comparable.

Now, would Sunderland fans suddenly gain a conscience if it was being thrown billions? The overwhelming vast majority, no, absolutely not. And I don't know what you'd do even if you did listen to what's "right". But you do need to stop pointing at other people - Sheff United, Labour, etc - as justification for what's happening. The Saudi stink is yours now, and will always be there - but maybe you won't notice/care if you sign Kylian Mbappe.

They absolutely are as wealthy as they claim to be. Unfathomable wealth. The head of the PIF has a painting worth more than Newcastle United.

Everything stops for Ramadan, which should start this weekend (if the moon sighting committee give it the OK).

And so it begins. If this goes through they’d better hit the ground running because they won’t be given much time.
