Given that Chi Onwurah was so desperate to slag Mike Ashley off in parliament I’m looking forward to hearing what she has to say about Mohammed bin Salman. Surely she wouldn’t let the issue of a tyrannical regime go unnoticed or is she all about pandering to the people who are eligible to vote for her?
i suspect we all know the answer to that one.

My Mam worked for her for a few years. Says that she is actually a really nice, diligent MP who genuinely cares about her constituents. That said following the ' It's all fat Mikes fault party line is likely to win her many, many votes.

I think this is a myth we say to ourselves to make supporting a shit club seem ok.

When I speak to Man City fans they absolutely love winning things, competing with their rivals and playing in Europe. Yeah there’s some who miss certain aspects of being shit but I reckon 99% of them are happier now then they were in the third division. You only have to go to the etihad to know how good they’ve got it.

Probably true, almost certainly.
But I wonder how many of the fans who were loyal supporters in the third division are priced out of the Etihad now?

No mate, just an understanding of how politics work. They have a form of absolute monarchy - which means the monarchy as a collective is responsible for all decision making but ultimately is passed by the head figure (king/queen/prince etc) It's quite straight forward really. Not my fault if you are an idiot when it comes to politics.

:lol::lol::lol:

Come off it.

Whilst admittedly this takeover is good news for the mags there is still a fuck lot of work required to turn them into a side capable of winning a trophy in an era where at least 8 clubs have ultra rich owners. First they have to find the right manager to win a trophy (not Bruce), then there is going to be player recruitment. I think Newcastle will essentially do an Everton and waste a good portion of money trying to play catch up unless there is a very targeted recruitment process like a Wolves type investment. This is a much more competitive era in the transfer market than when City first started after their takeover. In reality Newcastle will need to buy a whole new squad to compete. Some of those will turn out to be knackers, its inevitable. i think they have every right to be optimistic but there is alot of stuff that has to go right before they even have a sniff at a trophy.

Yes in my what's app chats from most of my mates asking with pictures of mbappe, bale, Messi wearing Newcastle strips.

If the deal goes through there are a lot of fans expecting exactly this!
The delusion will never end with these fuckers

At least there'll be loads of tea towels being sold in the shops so good news for our economy

I want to know what we are actually meant to do as fans? It is constantly said on here that it protests and a few fans shouting won’t change a thing. That they are pointless and make us look generally stupid. So would a protest over this be different? Would this be the one protest that changed something?

Like lots of us I have read some of what has happened in Saudi Arabia and been appalled by it, and happy that I’m fortunate enough to not live there. Then I have tutted, shook my head and went back to thinking about the people and things that are more important to me in my day to day life. It’s sad but that’s how it is.

My club is part of my life, is responsible for some of the best (and worst) moments of my life. It is a link to my mates, family and my home city. I’m certain that rings true to fans of every club from big to small. It’s been part of my life since before any Saudis, Ashley, Shepherd and Hall (just), and it will be once they are gone.

So if this happens, will I be waving a Saudi Arabia flag above my head? No I won’t. But too right I will be proudly holding my NUFC scarf and dreaming of a future in which we might compete and actually win a trophy.

Sportswashing isn’t new, it isn’t limited to football and it certainly shouldn’t only be limited to NUFC. The days of ethics in sport are very sadly gone. Obscene wages, cheating encouraged and normalised, agents etc. We are ultimately just fans who are at the whim of whoever owns us.

Regardless of whether you knew about it or not (thanks for admitting you didn't care before it was Newcastle) the point still stands. You cannot claim to be utterly appalled by the Saudi involvement if you weren't appalled previously - CLEARLY at this point it becomes more of an agenda against Newcastle as a club than a 'the commit atrocities' stance.

You can, though. Because it's happening to YOUR club. A sadistic regime is using your club to wash its blood-stained image. That's not hyperbole, that's fact.

So maybe stop worrying about who did or didn't have a stance, and get one of your own. If that's "look the other way for a top eight finish" then that's what it is, but be prepared for a lot more people to have "an agenda against your club".

What a hideously short sighted opinion to have. Do people also have an agenda against Sheff Utd or Chelsea ? The truth is 99.9% of this board only care about the appalling human rights violations because they are taking over Newcastle. Not a single fuck was given beforehand. Don't let your views of Newcastle and the rivalry suddenly become a moral one when previously you didn't care at all, it's just hypocritical.

When you vote Labour , do you turn a blind eye to the fact they killed plenty of civilians in an unjust war? I'm assuming that you do because their are other parts of the party that strikes a chord with you. Likewise Tories and arming terrorists.

So whilst aware of these things, you put it to the back of your mind to vote for your own interests. I will always be fully aware of the atrocities they have committed and likely continue to commit but they are not my interest - Newcastle Utd is. I and my club are very unlikely to change the Saudi regime.

You might not be, but plenty already - literally - are. Twitter, Facebook etc are full of it - I've even seen profile pics changed to MBS...

OK, so try reading my actual post this time, and then answering that. That was almost politically done the way you attempted to miss the stuff I was writing about, and answer a different question. Media training 101.

Again, though, and take your time. Doesn't matter what people on this board are saying - YOU should have opinion on the people buying your club. It doesn't matter about our rivalry - this is on you, it's happening to your club. YOU - Mag in Peace - should have a stance, as ALL Newcastle fans should.

As for single fucks given - yes, people who hate the Saudi regime will now have an opinion on Newcastle United. Get used to that. This board will barely be a tiny, tiny part of it.

Does anyone else think there’s some odd goings on. Ashley loaning then money?

I assume my views are likely to be shared by nearly every Newcastle fan. Firstly, I doubt anybody is not appalled by the atrocities. Most however will take the stance of - What is the club and the fans of the club meant to do about it? Governments and Royal families look the other way whilst benefitting and shaking hands with the Saudi Royal family. If they can't act or refuse to, what exactly do you expect us to do? I haven't seen a single post condoning their actions.

Secondly , this takeover has the potential to change many lives for the better. Whether that's on a basic level - hope of being better on the football field (as a Sunderland fan I am sure you appreciate the importance of Football to the NE) or financially through improvements that are likely to happen as a result in the North East. It will likely create more jobs and business opportunities etc potentially by regenerating parts of the city.

Who knows , perhaps by branching out and expanding in to the Western world the Saudi's may be easier to be held accountable for crimes in the future and if that becomes possible, I hope that it happens.

My previous post remains a valid point though, people regularly ignore plenty of horrid things because their own interests out weigh it - like yourself voting Labour. As horrible as it is, it happens all the time.
I have also never understood the idea behind sportwashing - As if winning a few games would make people forget what is happening in the real world - that's a sad reflection of people and our society more than anything else.

If its just to allow Stavely to have the funds quickly to complete with her 10% then makes sense I suppose. Could be in return for advertising rights?

Definitely has a 'All that glitters is not gold‘ feel about it. This has been rumbling on for ages, if they truly had the investment that people are saying this would have been done ages ago. Man City owners didn’t fuck about when they completed theirs.

That’s a very good post.A couple of months ago no football fan had a word to say on the Saudi regime.

i suspect we all know the answer to that one.

Like any other Nufc supporter, If she had any integrity about herself she’d condemn them for the brutal monsters they are.......But they’re bringing money into the club this will be conveniently overlooked. In fact the Newcastle fans are actively celebrating it!

Does that mean it’s not as advanced as everyone is saying?

Martin Samuel said if it doesn’t go through Ashley will still pocket £17million. I think it’ll go through but not until this time next month.

I don't know the details, but why does Ashley need to loan them £150 million? She's busy suing Barclays for a reported £1.6 billion and Salman is worth a reported £17 billion.
