Bit of a revelation that there was coughing before all Keppel's answers too
Sorry, my lass was doing my head in about it 😂

See, the bit from 47-50 mins is them trying to say anything to prove what their version was, even when it wasn't happening. The voiceover says he apparently forgets his strategy. Why the hell would he suddenly forget it at £250K? Then Whittock suddenly coughs on the wrong answer to say it's wrong, not right. Wouldn't the major just hear a cough and think it was right? Wouldn't a better strategy to just be completely silent until the right answer is mentioned? If major doesn't know the answer then he has to wait for a cough before committing. And if he said "no" loud enough for somebody 15 feet away in a studio with that atmospheric music playing, wouldn't all the people right next to him be in no doubt at all, never mind Tarrant who was never aware of any of it?

Where can we see a transcript of the prosecution summing up?
Did she pressure him into insurance fraud a couple of years later? I wouldn't believe the way it's been portrayed myself, think it's been a poor 3rd episode.
May have needed cash to pay the fines and costs.

Haway man, he clearly cheated. He was reading them out constantly and getting coughs for the right answer, I'm sure he was on the Craig David one for 20 minutes, the million pound he didn't have a clue and just went for it without hesitating almost. The phone call when he was told that he basically cheated and just said alright...if that was someone who was innocent and had no idea you would surely question it and be annoyed? I know I read stuff years ago about it as well but can't find it.

I've watched that documentary again with fresh eyes and its shambolic. There is so much guess work and supposition in the commentary from Bashir and tittle tattle from the production team. Bashir was saying that Ingram was following the coughs despite Ingram being in the middle of talking (the cricket question in particular). They made a big thing of the Ingrams being on there several times and being obsessed with the show but then made statements like 'she didnt know her every move was being filmed in the studio'. Holes all over the place in it.

If there was a system, it was inconsistent, chaotic and would be nigh on impossible to successfully follow through to a million quid. Tarrant himself said it was 'like a madhouse in the studio' with people screaming and gasping. How could Ingram, sitting yards away with Tarrant in his face, reading out potential answers, specifically isolate Whittock's cough out? That would take immense talent and is an insanely risky strategy. How could they rely on Whittock being right?

Even if that was the strategy they employed, and Im doubtful now, there is surely no way the jury could say that they were guilty beyond reasonable doubt.

I watched the 3 parter, my observations (from what we saw)

1) They were guilty - but IMPORTANTLY, not beyond "ALL Reasonable Doubt"
2) Dunno what the hell that dance bit was about!!!!!
3) The amount of "normal" coughs, tape G, no coughs on some right answers // muddied the waters

Given the guilty verdict the judge (in my view) passed a really sensible sentence, no point in jailing them (3 kids etc), not a danger to society, costly appeal almost certain, they never got their money - also what had happened to them as a family (dog/kids changing schools/verbally abused in public etc), meant he had to resign army rank was quite a punishment. Why would anyone shoot their pet, give the kids shit at school or abuse them in public??

Whilst we sometimes go on about incorrect sentences for criminals, I would praise the judge in this one. Especially for the line "Is that your final answer Mr Tarrant", if that was said BRILLIANT :)

Chris T was on the Chris Moyles show this morning talking about it. He says they got it very well done but lots of dramatic licence and not fully accurate. He did say that while they were right in that he never suspected a thing during the show, even he thought having reviewed the evidence and worked with the production team on figuring it out, that he was guilty as hell. He also thought they painted him in a little too much of an 'innocent' light. Enjoyed it overall though.

Aye that bit near the end where the fella from Celador meets the lad from the syndicate and he says the Ingrams weren’t in the fold..that was odd like.

Her brother had been in touch with both the syndicate and Whittock. He'd got all the information from them about how to get on the show and also about getting into the hot seat. He passed that info on to the Ingrams but they themselves hadn't had any direct contact with the bloke.

The only thing they didn't have from the syndicate was the help on phone a friend. That was probably because they didn't want to share the win. I'm assuming the syndicate took a cut of the winnings.

The number of people that the syndicate bloke said had been on the show who were linked to them..hundreds of them..it was happening every week.
Was it 20%?

25% they said.

Even if you just watch the million pound question, 3 times he goes round the answers and 3 times Whittock coughs at Google! He didn't have a clue what a google was, he doesn't even mention what any of the other 3 are either for his 'process of elimination'.

It was an entirely bizarre display and very suspicious.

He was a major in the army watching 9/11 unfold, may have had other things on his mind.

The call was 6 days after 9/11...I don't see how that would effect him, anyway that's down to opinion I suppose.
^this^ You don't gamble dropping by £468,000 on an answer you hadn't even heard of it.
Amazing how Whittocks cough had disappeared minutes later when he was next in the chair as well....
