How many hours game time you put in to get to final chapter
31 mate. Don’t know it’s the final chapter but been told once I advance I won’t be able to come back. Done every side quest, found all the weapons & materia, topped the high scores for darts and all the other mini games.

That's my plan too.

I've just done the dancing thing how gay was that mind....

Was like wtf am I playing cloud turned into stiffler of american pie the wedding for a bit lol

I'm into Chapter 10 now, and I reckon I'd be gutted if I hadn't played the original before in terms of storyline.

There's very little happens like, or maybe it's just because I know of what's to come?

No, you're right. They've filled it out mostly with shitty quests looking for cats and the like. When it follows the original it's great. When it strays it's not so great. I honestly think the world is a bit bland, lifeless and repetitive outside of Wall Market, too. It's good, but by no means as good as it's getting praised for being, IMHO.

Yeah the fine cats or kids tasks remind of shite from Assasins creed and stuff like that, rather than a good RPG.

Tell you what fucks me off, and I can't work out why they've done it so often. Why do they love to make you walk sideways? Every where you go theres always 5 or 6 aimless sideways walking passages?!

And forced walking. It's to artificially lengthen the game time. It is irritating.

Apparently the slow walks and forces camera angles are to mask loading screens.

I agree that there are too many long corridors where nothing happens. Midgar in the original is about 5 hours and really just sets the stage for what’s to come and introduces the main characters.

I like that they fleshed out the other avalanche members because that makes the sector 7 scene so much more impactful. The likes of Roche and the linear tunnels between sections were pretty poor and repetitive imo

Couple of things they’ve changed in the plot irk me slightly. Main one being cloud saying he killed sephiroth in the first hour was one. That’s the major twist in the original!

Didn't he say he watched him die?
If anything sums up how shite the walking from place to place is on this it's the stairs in the Shinra building. Just an inexplicable design decision from the devs, that.

The Shinra building is an absolute slog. It's sapping my will to continue just running through its endless boss fights and copy paste corridors. The forced two party approach is such a shit, artificial way to raise difficulty. This is not a patch on the original for me.

To be fair the stairs are from the original and you can take the quicker route in the lift.

Agree about the rest of the shinra building though. Was one of the best bits of the story in the original but this one they’ve removed all the story aspect and put more filler in. Reminds me of a similar bit of final fantasy XV which was roundly panned and got patched later on.

Can't remember the stairs in the original, been a long time since I played it, like. I thought it would give me some advantage but it didn't, looked it up. Just a different set of interactions with the characters.
I'm on the last battle now. It's incredibly bad. The game has slid off a cliff since the Shinra building. They warped the story, the whisper fate stuff is f***ing terrible. I had my worries about what Square would do to and they've been confirmed unfortunately. I've just lost all interest in it.

Hellhouse was bit of a dick but pushed through.

More enjoyable to not compare the two imo.

Just finished it.

Overall 6.5/10. Don't think any of this has any spoilers in so -

Main positives -
full on nostalgia buzz
the story is still incredible
the voice acting and script was really good
depth of peripheral characters from the original was decent, Jessie, Biggs, Hojo etc.

Main negatives -
some of the tasks were a bit mundane, and felt like I was playing a game like Assassins Creed or Arkham Asylum at times with the repetitive boring nature of them.
the last 20% of the game, I felt like I was watching a film with the odd boss battle chucked in
the battle system is boring as fuck, there's only really the Rufus fight and the last battle that felt like you really needed to do anything 'tactically'
the amount of sideways walking down a thin alley had me on the verge of smashing my controller
