Coronavirus compendium thread

They couldn’t stop Spanish flu, in 1918 and Asian flu, in the 1950s spreading and both of them were before flying was a popular form of transport. It does mean that Coronavirus will spread far more quickly than either of them did

1918 Flu is believed to have been largely transmitted by millions of soldiers returning from the war. So at least that's something we don't have to worry about.

Bad news is that you are right about mass transportation.

.
How long before people take advantage of this virus and demand 14 days self isolation to there employers.
If advice is to self isolate if certain health issues occur and no doctor needs to confirm this.
Yes I’m a cynical but having worked with people over the years who used any means to not turn into work, I’m sure once it starts it will be an epidemic in itself.
Conversely there's those that should self isolate, who won't. We can't all bang in 2 weeks self certified sickness on the off-chance we might get ill.

It's worrying. Hygiene is a hugely important thing for helping to contain this and you only have to visit the toilets at service stations, pubs, shopping centres etc to see how utterly minging people are with not washing their hands. There's no way those people are going to wash their hands after snoting in them if they don't wash them after having a shit.

I think it is a precautionary measure to allow them to, if necessary, forcibly quarantine people. Personally i dont think it is a huge risk but seems like a sensible precaution
The right thing to do, apparently one of the people who've landed from Wuhan was kicking off saying they had no right to detain him etc. so the new law was basically to force him to stay put.

I find that story amazing as they knew they were going into quarantine before they even left to go to the airport in China, nothing stranger than people

Always find it strange that visitors to hospitals rarely use the hand sanitizers on their way in but do so nearly always on their way out. They obviously think they can’t be a carrier

Honestly mever understood this, but you're right you see it all the time. People not washing their hands after going to the loo. Wtf....

1 in 5 death to survival ratio at the moment

I wouldn’t put much stock in that ratio. The number of people who have recovered is artificially lowered by the people who will recover but haven’t yet.

The crude mortality rate is about 2.5 in every 100.

Coronavirus: Brighton GP practice closes after staff member tests positive Coronavirus closes Brighton GP practice

this from that article for people who don’t click the link

A GP practice in Brighton has been temporarily closed after a staff member tested positive for the coronavirus.

Patients at the city's County Oak medical centre have been advised to contact the NHS 111 phone service if they have concerns.

Eight people in the UK have now been infected by the coronavirus.

The Department of Health has called the virus a "serious and imminent threat" to public health, but the overall risk level to the UK remains "moderate".

There have been more than 40,000 cases of the virus globally, mostly in China. The total number of deaths in China is now 908.
