I think there is a very strong case for doing away with the Royal Mail. Very few meaningful letters come by post, there are plenty of alternative companies to deliver parcels, and it only seems to exist courtesy of marketing companies these days.

Not yet, but I can see it coming.
As long as government agencies like the DVLA/HMRC etc need a postal service, we will likely keep one. But increasingly even their work is being done online, and as more people do that, the less we need a postal service.

As time goes by, and the older generation (who tend to be less computer literate) pass on, the more will be done online and the less relevant the postal service will be. It will probably end up as an expensive niche service in about 10 years

pretty sure they survive on parcels these days, ebay must give it some business tbf
people will always need parcels btw......

I’d be gutted. I use it loads and all the time. I have a drawer full of stamp books.

Also I’d be gutted if I started getting “no post” instead of “ it very much post”.

Strange one. If you're sending one letter, then about 50p to send something anywhere in the country in a day or two is amazingly cheap.

Yet if you've got loads of them to send, suddely its very very expensive.

The Royal Mail delivers approx. 14.4 billion letters every year and approx. 1.2 billion parcels

If we're getting rid of it I suggest we replace it with some sort of nationwide mail delivery service, we like calling things after the monarchy as well.........

What about Mail Royal?

Of course they are needed . Companies are happy to deliver in high density areas but rural communities would be fucked

I'm not surprised. From what i've seen form Postman Pat, he spends more time dicking about in a variety of vehicles than he does delivering the mail

I suspect 75% of the letters are marketing bumph and the parcels could easily be absorbed by other delivery companies.

From the size of the queues on a Saturday morning collection desk, I think it's very much in use.

Saying that, they dont deliver the parcels anymore, just pop them little red cards through your door instead.

how many of those letters go directly in the bin, with a good percentage not even being opened?

Hate it when a company uses them because of that.
Every other courier usually leaves it with a neighbour, these hardly seem to bother.
