Shocking captaincy this for me. Curran is a 4th seamer at best for me. Wood should be opening and Woakes in at first change. New ball is vital, we could break them and the inning could be over by 4pm if we start well, but Roots still not covering himself in glory - yet another 50 and out - and now this bowling choice

New ball = conventional swing (Curran, Woakes)
Old ball = reverse swing (Wood)
Here he comes...

Really???? Didn’t know that thanks for an lesson marrow.

Because of course the only possible benefit to the new ball is swing, no benefit of extra bounce, extra pace off the pitch, seam movement or anything to consider...
